We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robyn Gardenhire. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robyn below.
Robyn, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose when I began teaching young students, and noticed that everything my teacher had said to me started coming out of my mouth. I learned by doing it.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the Founder & Artistic Director of City Ballet of Los Angeles we are a professional company and school that builds young dancers and brings the world of ballet into the 21st century, by presenting dance that is diverse in its programming and reaching out to the community’s that don’t attend the ballet.
We have produced our own Nutcracker for the city of Los Angeles that is set in 1945 right after WWII our price brings home a Nutcracker and gives it to our Maria. It’s a new take on the original and we will be bringing it back in 2024 at our home theater The Ebell. Along with other programming at the Ebell, we are calling it Dance at the Ebell.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Involving other people in projects I have found that talking to others opens up so many oppertunitys
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Putting me with people that I did not look like the world of ballet is not at first glance looked like a place that would accept me into the club. But it is art and that is the world and it has had its issues, but that has now changed and I have helped with that change.
