Meet Rochelle Perry

We were lucky to catch up with Rochelle Perry recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rochelle with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I grew up with a single mom who basically did it all. She raised us while working a 60-hour work week, she instilled in me and my brother the importance of studying hard and that hard work pays off. She was always an overachiever and so I always felt like I had some big shoes to fill. She’s such an inspiration and I am proud of all my accomplishments because I know I’ve worked really hard to get where I’m at. After we moved out of the house my mom worked extra jobs as well on the weekends. And I feel like since I entered the work force I have always had a side hustle, whether it be freelance design or color work, writing for the theatre, or now content creating through my social media channels. People say as you get older you turn into your parents, and I definitely see a resemblance of my mother in me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a line producer in the animation industry full time and I’m also a part-time content creator/influencer. I feel like content creator really blends all the things I love into one place; family time, being creative, writing, and making connections/building relationships with other creators and brands. We have such a supportive community and I love how we invite each other to events and spread the news about opportunities. I’m so excited about the upcoming Halloween and Christmas seasons. The “ber” months are definitely my favorite with all the festivities going on like pumpkin patches and Christmas shows.

My husband also 3d prints so I’m hoping to collab with him and create some fun content with him too for the holidays so stay tuned for that! I love crafting and doing some fun DIYs.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Definitely networking and building those relationships. Many jobs I’ve found (whether in the industry or even through influencing) I’ve found through my peers who recommend me. I even wrote a thesis on this back in college.

It’s also important to stay up to date on the latest and greatest of what’s happening in your field. Keep studying and don’t be afraid to learn more.

And my last piece of advice is to keep a good head on your shoulders and be kind to others. There’s no room to have an ego. Confidence, yes. I also relate to he saying “don’t mistake kindness for weakness.” Just because I’m a nice person doesn’t mean you can walk all over me.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I have always been a huge advocate for being a jack of all trades (well-rounded) vs a master of one. I always look for ways to improve myself but maybe it’s just because I get bored easily by doing the same thing over and over again. I love content creating because of this too. It keeps things interesting and you never know what you may discover if you attempt something new. Whether you’re good at it or not, if you like it enough you will keep trying and not give up. If you look at many of my first reels for example on Instagram, they seem like a very different person’s. And I know I’m still learning and still evolving as an artist and as a person. I think no matter what it’s important to see growth and to want to grow.

Another example is I also used to hate public speaking or speaking on camera. I just never liked my voice and was always a super shy person. But I am facing my fear and being more vulnerable on camera lately and I think that has helped boost my confidence as well. I am proud of myself for overcoming that fear.
