We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Roderick Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Roderick below.
Roderick, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I believe my generosity comes from my willingness to see good in others and to see others in good spirits. I believe you obtain the best experiences in life when you put forth 50% of your efforts in life assisting others. My parents are generous folks so growing up, helping others was first nature to me. There’s a very rewarding feeling behind lending a helping hand with no ulterior motives. In addition to these reasons, I love to stand out, in this generation it’s common to be selfish and self-absorbed, being generous enables me to be different. Ultimately being generous helps others while in a way helps me feel human.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Primarily I’m an artist, my medians are photography, videography and rug tufting. I’ve been studying, practicing and administering my photography skills for others for 15 years. More recently I’ve adopted the talent of rug making, my market has seem to take a strong liking to this craft. My rug tufting journey, January 2021, when I wanted a custom rug of my Photo Studios logo. While shopping around I realized for about how much it would cost me to make it, I could buy the tool used to make it and do it myself, which is what I did. Since that moment I’ve made 100 plus rugs but still haven’t made the rug for my studio. This is really exciting for me and my clients because it’s a new trend. People are really clinging to the idea of having a customized interior decorative piece as well as I am to making them. Sales have been steady and inspiration has been flowing the only challenge I face is time and materials. I often find myself searching for materials in addition to finding time to throughly finish the rugs.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three charateristics that most impacted my journey would be my ability to absorb knowledge, my ambition to succeed and my creativity. These traits enables me to approach and take on the craft and develop my talents within it at an admirable pace.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
My current number one obstacle would have to be finding time to complete my daily task within this and my other business’. Currently juggling 3 business and a part time job plus a daughter and gym routine its becoming quite a hassle managing time to be productive within all these avenues within my life. To overcome this obstacle I’m looking to hire help and dedicate certain days for certain business ands goals. Pretty much organize better
