Meet Rodney Bowman

We were lucky to catch up with Rodney Bowman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Rodney , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Set myself creative challenges to push my boundaries and think outside the box. I’m always thinking of things to set myself apart. There has been times when Im sleeping and dream of something creative and woke up and write it down so I wouldn’t forget.

I like to interact with people and ask questions, and I’ve noticed that I’ve been able to piece together good ideals by asking the right questions and listening.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m an only child so I’ve always tended to “March to the beat of my own drum”. I started playing sports as a kid all the way up to college, so I have that competitive advantage and accustomed to setting goals for myself.

My motivation is my kids, that are all starting their own journey in life and I want to show them that it is never too late to start something new and succeed at it.

My daughter sent me a quote that I now live by. And it states, “I can’t complain about having too much on my plate when my goal was to eat!!”

I run my own Mobile Notary and Live Scan Fingerprint business, and my focus is to make sure I am very professional and courteous to my clientele that I interact with on each appointment. I pride myself on making others feel comfortable, and this is big in my business since I’m usually going into my client’s homes to provide a service.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Strong Communication skills, being able to effectively communicate with people of different backgrounds. I feel that good communication fosters relationships, build trust and enhance collaboration.

Understanding financial management, budgeting and cash flow has been vital for my success. This knowledge allows me to make informed decisions and don’t overextend myself.

The ability to be resilience, be able to bounce back from setbacks and adapt. Small business ownership often involves facing unexpected obstacles, so maintaining a positive attitude and persistence is essential.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

I go play a round of golf, I feel like you must have an outlet to decompress and regroup. Every once in a while, you need to just get away for a bit to clear your mind and give yourself time to refocus on the task at hand.

Everyone responds differently, so it may take some experimentation to find what works best for you.
