Meet Rodolfo Reyes

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rodolfo Reyes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Rodolfo, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Confidence and self-esteem developed from finding myself in many different situations in life, through work and personal life experiences. My line of work is fast paced and you find yourself in high pressure situations regularly, as a young cook I paid attention to how these difficult times were being dealt with. I had many bosses, both great and not and watching them succeed or fail allowed me to make more informed decisions. As I applied these examples to my own decision making, I became more and more comfortable making them. I was more secure in taking charge and asking for bigger challenges, applying for bigger roles at work and being more assertive in general based on first hand experience rather than theory. Having a firm grasp on a steady job where I was trusted paved the way for me to want to keep that feeling going in just about every aspect of life. Not to say I’ve never made mistakes, those are the ones with the biggest lessons to be learned!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own Culinary Brigade Private Chef, a food service solutions company for our clients. It is a different way of looking at the food we all already consume. We provide food to our clients in just about any way they need it or fits their lifestyle, be it meal prep for health reasons, a private chef service for special that special occasion or full scale catering for a big celebration. What sets us apart is the fact that we are serious professionals in the field, we have hands-on experience in just about every type of setting. If we haven’t done it, we will figure out a way to do it and do it right.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Reliability, people need to know they can rely on you doing your part. 2. Perseverance, keep showing up and putting in a solid effort. You will be tired, sad, worried and everything else you can think of, but if you find the strength to push through and come out on the other side. The feeling of accomplishment is addicting.
3. Flexibility, understand that it is incredibly selfish to expect every day to be perfect. Life throws curveballs at you, no matter what there will be things that weren’t in the original plan and you must find a way to cope.

I would advise that people understand the normal processes in life, you can’t be at the top if you haven’t put in the work. Learn from those who have been around the profession you’re in and watch for what makes them successful. Once you pinpoint attributes start applying them to you and put your own spin on it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There are many individuals who have helped shape me, you can learn many different things from many people. Some teach you the importance of being on time, others valuable hacks and some teach you about the bigger picture. In my case I’ve tried to learn from anyone I saw a virtue in. However my family takes the spot for making me dream bigger and push harder. From my parents coming to a new country to give us a better life to my own kids feeling like dad has their back. Having an amazing partner who has believed in my dreams and goals and has found a way to support me every step go the way, outworking me in the late nights and always being there for the tough times.
