Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rolando Boyce. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rolando, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think confidence is key in anything you do… without it you’ll continue to question why or if you’re doing whatever you’re trying to do. I always thought I was good after I started acting (I didn’t think I was the greatest) but I felt I could handle my own. I think it was probably 15 years ago (I can’t remember the exact time) but I realized I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I prepare myself for the work I’m doing and I’m good… it seems simple but it’s true. I’m not cocky or arrogant just sure of my ability.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Rolando Boyce I’m a professional actor. I started acting in Chicago in the late nineties. I began my career in the theater, I’ve been in over 25 plays, over 20 movies over 30 TV shows and more than 50 commercials. I absolutely love what I do and I encourage anyone to do what you love to do. Thank you
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think 3 areas of knowledge that impacted my journey are 1. Theater training: coming from the theater gives you a skill that helps you become a better actor. You learn how to build and create a character from scratch and live in the moment.
2. Listening: whether it’s to the director., fellow actors, or just people in your day to day life. Listening is essential in acting
3. Watching others: A couple times I’ve had the opportunity to sit in on auditions or have been the reader. Sometimes you can see choices people make that can help or hurt you.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I try to assure myself that I can only do what I can do and the world will go regardless of what I can’t control. My advice is not to put and don’t let others put pressure on you to do anything because that could lead to stress and life is too short to be stressed.
