Meet Roman Perez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roman Perez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Roman, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?

The ability to take risk came from self confidence and belief in myself.

Taking risks in life can either be good or bad outcomes, so taking time to organize myself and acknowledge the current situations allowed me to understand what i had to face when it came to decision making on the risks i would be getting myself into.

The sacrifice to accept a positive or event a failure outcome, gave me to the strength always to push forward knowing that no matter the final answer to the risks i took, the main principal was that i gave it my best and i tried my hardest to make it happen.

No matter how much we try to reach our goals we should always appreciate the opportunity, and if we fail we must learn to get back up and keep trying.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I was born in the Dominican Republic, and raised in Williamsburg Brooklyn, New York. Growing up, i got the passion to want to play basketball. Whether it was for fun or professionally the goal was to one day be a good basketball player. Eventually in time with hours of hard work and self belief i accomplished my dreams.

Currently i’ve played 17 years professionally and 21 years of organized tournaments called streetball. My stage nickname is da Gift, and i play with the world famous Court Kingz team. I’ve got my first Professional Championship in 2019 in the Dominican Republic and many more playing in leagues in New York.

Off the court, i’ve been blessed to be featured in many basketball commercial, magazine and newspaper appearances, H&M shirt globally in stores, and appeared in movies.

The mission currently is to inspire the next generation and anyone who needs encouragement to also reach their goals in life. I dedicate my time to help young athletes in training sessions and basketball opportunities. In which i am the founder of the Dudo Baez Foundation, which provides a platform for many to showcase their skills in camps and tournaments in New York and the Dominican Republic. Dudo Baez was the name of my father who passed away in 2014. His mission in life was to believe in others dreams, in especially to my dreams.

Currently i run a mentorship school which is called the Victorious Program. This program was created to help students understand the importance of pushing forward in life despite the obstacles they may face. Everyone is Victorious if we have that mindset daily.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The qualities that helped me in my journey were discipline, hard work and motivation.

Discipline has always been key to keep me in line and focused on everything, while hard work allowed me to push myself daily and motivation seeing my parents and brother grind daily pushed me to be better.

I would always give advice by encouraging others in applying these principles in their journeys and that all will be made possible.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My father Dudo Baez was my teacher. He was a hard working refrigeration mechanic. His advices and work ethic helped me be the man that i am today. His guidance and love helped me be good father and hard working person in my life. He is the reason to my success, and i will always remember him.
