Meet Roman Rodin

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Roman Rodin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Roman, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience has been shaped by several key factors. First and foremost, it comes from my upbringing. My mother, a strong and independent woman, has always been my support and guiding light. From an early age, she instilled in me the right values, taught me to overcome difficulties, and encouraged me not to fear failure. Thanks to her influence, my character became more resilient, and my confidence grew alongside me, allowing me to explore new horizons without hesitation.

In addition, my professional experience has played a significant role. Working in the legal field, I have learned to remain composed under pressure, think strategically, and find solutions even in high-stress situations. My ability to adapt, handle large volumes of information, and organize processes has also been a foundation of my resilience.

Finally, I draw strength from my commitment to growth, the support of my loved ones, and the belief that any challenge is simply another step toward new opportunities.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Roman Rodin, and I am the founder and head of Compass Moving, a transportation company based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In just one year since its founding, our company has risen to the top five best moving and transportation companies in the region.

My journey into business was unexpected and full of challenges. Just a year ago, I had no plans or intentions to start my own company. I had a successful legal career in the banking sector in another country, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I found myself in a new country and a completely new reality, where I had to start from scratch.

My first job in the U.S. was at a small transportation company. Thanks to my skills, strong results, and ability to build effective communication, I quickly advanced within the company. Working in administrative and managerial roles allowed me to gain a deep understanding of business operations. At some point, I realized that I was ready to start my own company.

One year after launching Compass Moving, we now hold a leading position among moving and transportation companies in Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Our goal for this summer is to reach the top three companies in the region.

Moreover, we are actively expanding our services, now covering not only Philadelphia but also Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. This requires an even greater focus on service quality and ensuring that every client experiences reliable, smooth, and stress-free moving assistance.

I am deeply passionate about what I do because I put all my energy, knowledge, and heart into it. My ultimate goal is to make the moving process as easy, safe, and worry-free as possible. I want clients to associate Compass Moving with a trusted partner who takes care of every detail during this important transition in their lives.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

If I had to choose three qualities that are the most important to develop, I would say discipline, optimism, and articulate speech.

Discipline helps me stay organized, manage my time effectively, and see things through to completion, even when challenges arise. It is the foundation of any success since long-term goals cannot be achieved without it.

Optimism gives me the strength to move forward despite difficulties. It helps me see opportunities where others see only problems and maintain motivation even in tough situations.

Articulate speech plays a crucial role in my life because the ability to clearly express and communicate ideas is not only an important skill for professional growth but also essential for effective communication in any area. I constantly strive to improve this skill because I believe that the ability to convey thoughts correctly leads to understanding, trust, and success.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

First and foremost, sports always help me. A good, energy-intensive workout clears away negative thoughts and feelings. After physical activity, my mind becomes clearer, allowing me to think rationally and develop strategies to resolve difficult situations.

Additionally, when something unexpected or negative happens in my life, I use a visualization technique. I take a blank sheet of paper and a pencil, outline the problem bothering me, and start drawing lines, mapping out possible solutions. Some ideas I discard, while others I develop further. By the end of this brainstorming session, those lines on paper turn into a structured plan and strategy for overcoming the issue.

This method always works, so I highly recommend learning to map out strategies on paper and then following them. When you have a clear plan in front of you, navigating through challenges becomes much easier.
