We were lucky to catch up with Romi Wallach recently and have shared our conversation below.
Romi, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Mental toughness is something that has been ingrained in me my entire life. And while I have experienced my fair share of challenges, traumas and obstacles, giving up or being a victim was never an option. But what really did catapult me to where I am at today was my experience in the Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis. In 2021, I was told about this fundraising event where 200 participants cross the Ocean, from Bimini Bahamas to Lake Worth Florida (80 miles), on a paddle board to raise money and awareness for the Piper’s Angels Foundation. I have always had a passion for philanthropy, also something that was a core value in my family. When I learned that I could combine a physical challenge, specifically SUP which was a new and favorite past time of mine, with an opportunity to do good for others, I didnt even ask questions. I knew very little about what I was committing to, but I was excited. I am a YES person and always game for an adventure and challenge. I have now been a part of the event for 4 years. And each year has been a lesson in what I am capable of. But it was my second year, June 2022, where I made the crossing from beach to beach and became an iron crusader. I never came in contact with my support boat and I paddled the entire distance without every getting off the board. Every time I am faced with a challenge, whether business or personal, I tap back into that experience and remind myself of what I have done and that anything is possible. I remind myself of all of the hard things I can do if I can paddle 80 miles across the Ocean. I use that experience, as well as others, to build my self confidence up when I doubt myself or feel overwhelmed. Mental toughness leads to self confidence and that self confidence is built by doing hard things and especially doing hard things when things are hard.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My focus now that my kids are young adults is my business and my various philanthropic organizations. I lost my dad when I was 22 years old suddenly. Because of this experience and the incredibly close relationship I had with him, I put any career ambitions I had on the back burner as I knew that my time to raise my kids would go by fast and I didn’t want to miss out on any of it. I was always working and doing entrepreneurial projects while raising my kids, but my focus was first and foremost my family. As they prepared for their next chapter going off to college, I knew it was time for me to focus my energy on my career. I started in financial services, and learned quickly that my passion and my skill set was in business development. Connecting people to one another is what really lights me up. In 2021 I Co-Founded The Daily Drip with my Co Founder Nicole Mastrangelo .
We are a media platform that provides content, resources, education and programming for the modern female business professional on her journey to maximum potential. Unlike traditional media, our content and programming comes exclusively from our community of local female industry professionals. With Nicole’s expertise in content marketing and business development, she was becoming acutely aware that navigating this new era of media and understanding the hybrid market place we now found ourselves in post Covid, is what set us on this path to supporting local female professionals in filling the skill gap that existed and supporting them in connecting their business plan to their content plan. But above all else, our mission was to amplify their voices.
It is through our 35 thought leaders that we share high impact engaging content through our blog, website, and our podcast. The Her Pursuit podcast, is a round table unscripted conversation about the entrepreneurship journey. We candidly share how and why we built the Daily Drip and the ups and downs that the journey has presented and share the tools and strategies we have used in our organization with our audience. We have built our community one woman at a time connecting with women who share our values.
We are truly a community of impact driven thought leaders and business leaders supporting one another and coming together to create and collaborate through events, content and community. We are an open forum where we share ideas and have candid conversations that lead to truly uplifting and elevating one another.
It is free to subscribe to our content and if you want to learn or you are looking for more support on your thought leadership journey, you can join the Daily Drip as a community member. At the highest level of engagement are our thought leaders who represent and continue to drive our mission and create the content that is making women feel heard, seen and supported.
What truly makes this community and our organization so special is that it is built on a foundation of authentic relationships and a passion for giving and having an impact on those around them. Everyone who comes our way is asking what they can do for others not asking for what they can get. It is a community of collaboration and support and encouragement. We have seen women who did not know one another form businesses together, collaborate on events and come together in ways that we could never have imagined. The women who make up our community is what makes it so special.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say that THE quality that has been most impactful is my passion for relationship building and connections. I have a deep understanding and live by the rule that you give for the sake of giving. My parents instilled in me from the earliest age that we do for others with absolutely NO expectation of “what is in it for me”. I have built my network entirely organically by forming deep and meaningful connections based on being exactly who I am and unapologetic about it. When I meet people I listen to them and take the time to really get to know them, what they do, what they care about. And that then allows me to do what I love to do most which is connect them with the right people. I get excited when I start to connect the dots. People are like puzzle pieces for me and I love putting them together. And my connections are not the obvious ones. I like to think outside the box. And the results of these introductions literally light me up. I get excited to see how meeting the right people can literally change your life and your business and I love to have a small part in that.
I am not afraid to try new things. Actually, I am at times afraid, but I do not allow the fear to stand in my way. I will put myself in uncomfortable situations or go outside my comfort zone because I know that even if I fail, I win. There is as much to gain from the failures as the successes. Maybe even more can be gained from the failures. I can’t know that I am not good at something if I have never tried it. I also can’t possibly learn anything about myself or get better if I don’t try new things. I think that being flexible in your journey is critical. The key is to stay true to yourself, but that doesn’t mean you should continue to work in a career or on a project that is out of alignment.
Don’t stop learning. I read, listen to podcasts and most importantly I spend time around people that are smarter than me and more successful. I want to be the best version of myself and that is something that requires attention and self reflection. I want to keep evolving and growing and so that means i need to keep learning.
For those folks that are early in their journey I would say that finding the right people to surround yourself with is critical. Part of the magic that is The Daily Drip is the fact that it is a community of entrepreneurs or professionals that are working in entrepreneurial roles and that is a lonely place. When you find a community of like minded and like valued individuals that you can share experiences with, trials and tribulations, your wins and your failures, all of that loneliness and isolation gets farther away. Find community or a group of people that will be in your corner, push you to be your best, and support you when you aren’t at your best.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
The Daily Drip was built through partnerships and collaborations. The trajectory of our business is because of how much we value and understand the importance of partnerships. Not only have we built our business and community through partnerships and collaborations, but we have witnessed our Thought Leaders and members do the same. We could not have gotten to where we are at today without the support of our partners.
We are very intentional about who we partner with. Above all else, it is critically important to us that we are aligned in our values. We partner with organizations who understand that relationships and delivering the highest degree of excellence in our services and products is paramount. Whatever we do at the Daily Drip is always driven by “how can we better support our Thought Leaders, our community members and our subscriber base”. We are always asking ourselves and those in our organization what we can do to make sure their experience is the best possible experience.
When we partner with other businesses, we want to work with organizations who can further add value to what our mission is at the Daily Drip and provide the services that they need in order to support their businesses and support their leadership journey. Each partnership is customized to ensure that together we are serving our community with the best providers for the services they need. But even beyond that, we always want to identify what our partners goals and objectives are by collaborating with us to ensure that we can truly support them!
We are open to collaborating with any organization that believes in supporting the modern business woman on her journey to maximum potential. We want continue to add valuable resources to our members and we can only do that through collaboration.
