Meet Romila Chitturi

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Romila Chitturi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Romila, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.

Over the years, my ability to communicate effectively has evolved through a blend of experiences, reflection, and constant learning. As someone who has been writing for 28 years and teaching, I’ve always been deeply invested in the art of words and expression. Writing 25 books and curating content for Unicorn, my literary magazine, taught me that communication isn’t just about speaking or writing—it’s about understanding your audience and connecting with them on a personal level.

My roots in Delhi, coupled with my life in Hyderabad, have exposed me to diverse cultures and perspectives, broadening my worldview. Editing and storytelling sharpened my attention to detail, helping me convey thoughts with clarity. Teaching pushed me to adapt my style, ensuring complex ideas were accessible and engaging.

A significant turning point was realizing the importance of listening. Truly hearing others, whether students, readers, or collaborators, gave me the insight to respond thoughtfully. Humor, a hallmark of my personality, helped me keep communication light yet impactful. Above all, my ability to manage time effectively ensures I balance precision with creativity, making every conversation or piece of writing meaningful. Communication, to me, is the bridge that connects intellect and emotion, and I’ve embraced that fully.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Professionally, I am focused on nurturing my literary magazine, Unicorn, ensuring it continues to be a platform for creativity and meaningful expression. As an author and professor, I prioritize crafting impactful stories, poetry, and content that resonate with readers while inspiring my students to think critically and creatively. Writing has been my lifelong passion, and though I’m not working on a new book right now, I’m constantly exploring ideas and refining long-length poems in my mind. My goal is to blend my love for storytelling with my commitment to education, empowering others to find their voice and embrace their potential.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities that profoundly impacted my journey are resilience, time management, and a love for learning. Resilience helped me navigate rejections and challenges, especially in writing and publishing, teaching me to see setbacks as stepping stones. Time management became my superpower, enabling me to balance my roles as an author, mentor, and editor without compromising on quality. Lastly, my insatiable love for learning—whether through books, travel, or conversations—kept me curious and inspired.

For those starting their journey, I’d advise embracing patience. Growth is rarely linear, but resilience will keep you moving forward. Develop a strong sense of discipline—set routines, manage time wisely, and respect your craft. Finally, stay curious and open to new experiences; they shape your perspective and fuel your creativity. Remember, success is not a race but a journey, and every step teaches you something valuable.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, I’m always open to meaningful partnerships and collaborations that align with my passion for storytelling, writing, and creativity. I’m particularly interested in working with like-minded individuals, writers, editors, and literary enthusiasts who share a commitment to producing quality content that inspires and engages. Collaborations in the areas of poetry, prose, literary projects, or even workshops would excite me, especially if they involve fresh, innovative perspectives.

I also welcome opportunities with brands or organizations that value literature, education, and the arts. If you’re someone who thrives on creativity and wants to create something impactful, I’d love to hear from you.

The best way to connect with me is through my Instagram or LinkedIn. Let’s create something memorable together—words have the power to make a difference, and I believe collaboration multiplies that impact.
