We were lucky to catch up with Rona Michelle Curtis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rona Michelle, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I’m delighted to share my self-care journey and its profound impact on my life. Self-care is my secret weapon to conquering the hustle with grace and purpose. Here’s how I’ve integrated my main six self-care practices into my life:
1. Rest and Sleep: I’ve made beauty sleep a non-negotiable priority. The world can wait while I recharge my mind and body. After all, even superheroes need their rest to save the day effectively!
2. Regular Exercise: I’ve turned workouts into my personal power hours. Sweating it out not only boosts my energy but also fuels my determination to face challenges head-on.
3. Mindful Meditation: I’ve embraced the art of serenity amidst the chaos of the world. Taking mindful moments to breathe, center, and find my zen helps me maintain clarity, groundedness, stability and focus throughout the day.
4. Unplugging from Technology: I’ve declared a digital detox sanctuary. Ditching the screens for a while allows me to rediscover the joy of analog living and sparks my creativity in unexpected ways.
5. Connecting with Nature: I’ve embraced “earthing” – feet on the grass, soul in tune with the universe. Nature is my therapy, and it gifts me the inspiration to innovate while finding tranquility in the rustling leaves.
6. Setting Boundaries and Saying No: I’ve mastered the art of gracefully declining. Saying no is saying yes to preserving my time, energy, and enthusiasm for what truly aligns with my mission.
The impact? Well, let’s just say my effectiveness has soared to new heights. I’m like a symphony – composed, harmonious, and confidently conducting the rhythm of my life. These practices have sharpened my focus, elevated my mood, and fortified my mind, body and spirit.
So, while the world races ahead, I’m taking deliberate steps to nurture myself. After all, the journey is just as important as the destination, and I intend to arrive not only successful but also thriving, vibrant, and utterly unstoppable.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a skilled and professional Psychic Medium, certified and trained Womb Reiki Practitioner, intuitive Wellness Coach, Shaman and Founder of She 13 Wellness. But more than that, I am a mother of four incredible children, whom I homeschool, and have been married for nearly 15 years to my veteran husband.
I help women heal, transform, and restore their feminine divine power so that they can live a more balanced, empowered and fulfilled life with less struggle and more ease and grace!
My journey into holistic healing began in 2011 when I chose to step away from organized religion, seeking a deeper connection with the Divine which allowed me to embrace my authentic self fully.
This decision led to a major spiritual awakening in 2012—a rebirth that ignited my love for astrology, herbalism, meditation, intuitive readings, and the metaphysical and healing arts.
Over the past decade, I’ve immersed myself in studying, practicing, and mastering the healing and metaphysical arts, gaining valuable insights along the way while experiencing tremendous changes in my life mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
Healing and overcoming my personal struggles with sexual abuse, poverty, depression, homelessness, Ulcerative Colitis (which led to a near-death experience), and the heartbreaking loss of my father and grandmother…
Has fueled within me an unwavering empathy and a deep desire to help others on their healing journeys.
Today, I am more passionate than ever about extending my decade of knowledge, wisdom, and services to empower women to heal and transform within and elevate your lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Build Self-Confidence: Work on boosting your self-esteem and self-confidence. When you believe in your worth and abilities, you’re less likely to feel the need to compare yourself to others for validation. Self-confident individuals are more accepting of their imperfections and mistakes. They understand that nobody is perfect, including themselves, and they don’t need to compare themselves to an idealized image of others
2. Celebrate Others’ Success: When others achieve success, genuinely celebrate it without feeling threatened or envious. Recognize that their success does not diminish your potential for success. Doing this helps you break the habit of comparing yourself to others by shifting your focus, building empathy, and contributing to a supportive and growth-oriented mindset. It’s a powerful way to create a more uplifting and fulfilling outlook on your own journey and the success of those around you.
3. Continuous Learning: Lifelong learning is a game-changer. Cultivate a hunger for knowledge and a curiosity-driven mindset. Invest time in reading, attending seminars, and seeking out mentors who can guide you. Doing this redirects your focus from external benchmarks and comparisons to your personal growth and development. Instead of measuring yourself against others, you measure yourself against your own progress and potential. As you acquire new skills and knowledge through continuous learning, your confidence in your abilities grows. This increased self-assurance can reduce the need for external validation and comparisons with others.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When the waves of overwhelm start to wash over me, I’ve honed a few strategies that I rely on to regain my balance and focus. Here’s how I navigate those moments:
1. Pause and Breathe: The first step is to take a pause. Find a quiet space, close your eyes, and take slow, deep breaths. This simple act helps to calm your racing thoughts and grounds you in the present moment.
2. Prioritize and Delegate: Assess the tasks at hand and prioritize them based on their urgency and importance. If possible, delegate tasks that others can handle. This frees up mental space and empowers your family and team, fostering a collaborative environment.
3. Break It Down: Overwhelm often stems from trying to tackle too much at once. Break tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This not only makes the workload feel more achievable but also gives you a sense of accomplishment as you check off each step.
4. Mindful Time Management: Utilize techniques like the Pomodoro Technique, which involves focused work intervals followed by short breaks. This structured approach not only boosts productivity but also prevents burnout.
5. Reach Out for Support: It’s important to recognize that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it’s seeking advice from a mentor, teacher, or simply venting to a trusted colleague, sharing your feelings of overwhelm can provide valuable insights and relief.
6. Physical Activity: Stepping away from your workspace or home for a brief walk or engaging in a quick workout helps release endorphins and clears your mind. Physical activity is a fantastic way to reset and gain perspective.
7. Practice Gratitude: Shifting your focus to what you’re grateful for can put things into perspective. Reflecting on the positives in your life reminds you of the progress you’ve already made.
8. Self-Compassion: Remind yourself that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed at times; it’s a natural human response. Practicing self-compassion and letting go of perfectionism allows you to move forward with a clearer mindset and less pressure.
Remember, everyone’s journey is different, so it’s essential to explore and find what strategies work best for you. Overcoming overwhelm is an ongoing practice, and these techniques have become my go-to tools for restoring calm and regaining control during even the most challenging moments.
