Meet Ronald Ruben

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ronald Ruben. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ronald below.

Hi Ronald, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Well it took me a while to discover my purpose. At a very young age I knew that I was called to serve. However, I was reluctant and preferred to stay in the background. Growing up I stood and saw my parents lose friends and experience church hurt because of ministry. This caused me to run away. I wanted to be an itinerant minister. Preach and go home! However, one Sunday I went to work ( the only Sunday I ever worked) a client stopped me and simply said “You know you’re going to be a Pastor.” My response was “no thank you.” Over the next three years I continued to run from Pastoring. I received prophecies and message saying that I am called to be a shepherd. One day I went to a church service and the preacher called me out and she said “you have a Pastor’s heart” and I was called to a fast where God reminded me of the call on my life I also grew more and more frustrated with the lack of structure and discipleship in my local church. I felt told me that my frustration was a gift and the reason I was so frustrated was because I had solution to that problem..and her I am. With the help of the love of my life, my wife, Faimire, I am walking in my purpose as a Pastor and as a leader

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am currently the Lead Pastor of Restoration Church of God in Philadelphia. My church is 98% Gen Z. I am leading so many people who have been unchurched, dealing with church or just curious about the Gospel. Being a pastor is exciting because you get to plant the seed of the Gospel and watch the tree grow. The process has some up and downs, but it’s beautiful to see. Young people just have a zeal about them and they are at place where they no frills – just Jesus.

We are now putting a greater emphasis on making an impact on local community. We are not in North Philadelphia simply to have a great worship service every Sunday, we called to make an IMPACT. Jesus did not only preach sermons, he also fed the people in the community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that are most impact:

1. Humility – You must always depend on God. We are only successful when doing His will in His timing. His grace is revealed in staying in your lane. Stop looking for His strength to run someone else’s race. Do what He has called you to do.

2. Integrity – Integrity is doing something right even when no one else is looking. It is easy to do right with a mic in your hand. However, your character goes beyond the pulpit, podcast, etc. It’s how you treat people, how you speak to people, are you honest?, do you pursue justice? These are the things that will get you far. Your gifts will make room for you, but character will keep you in those rooms.

3. Prayer – Prayer is power. Prayer does not reveal anything new to God, but it transfers ownership from you to God. And when you invite God into a situation you cannot go wrong. It is dangerous to go forward without speaking to God

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents have done for me is the importance of hard work. Before they left this earth they would always remind me that Nothing will be given to you and I better not let someone out work me. This principle is something I will carry with me untilI I leave this earth. It is easy to pray and rest on your laurels. But they always taught me that after you pray, you need to work and actively prepare for what you’re praying for.
