We recently connected with Rondré “key” Brooks and have shared our conversation below.
Rondré “Key”, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My strong work ethic stems from a place of scarcity. Without access to resources, connections, or financial backing, I was driven to create my own opportunities. Working multiple dead-end jobs, I’d often observe the decision-makers at the top, discussing the company’s future, and I knew I had the intellect and potential to be in their shoes. However, the lack of opportunities forced me to take matters into my own hands. I built my own business and brand, allowing me to control my narrative and forge my own path. This journey has taught me the value of resilience, determination, and innovative thinking.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a project manager for fix-and-flip projects in metro Detroit, I thrive in the ever-changing real estate landscape. While traditional wisdom emphasizes Supply and Demand, I’ve found that flipping this concept on its head yields better results. My approach is to create Demand first, then supply it – a philosophy that has served me well. Beyond my project management work, I’m proud to be co-owner of New Way Realty Partners, a brokerage I founded in 2021. Our team of dedicated agents, now over a dozen strong, are empowered to forge their own paths in real estate, driving innovation and success in the industry.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I prioritize three core qualities in both my professional and personal life:
1. Fairness: I strive to treat others with fairness and integrity, expecting the same in return. Moreover, I emphasize self-fairness, recognizing my own worth and value.
2. Grace: I believe in offering kindness and understanding to those who need it most, while also extending grace to myself. This helps balance my tendency to be overly self-critical.
3. Financial prudence: I advocate for conservative spending habits, adhering to the principle that if you can’t afford something twice, you shouldn’t buy it once.
Additionally, I emphasize the importance of building a strong personal brand. By focusing on developing a solid reputation and character, financial success will naturally follow. This approach has guided me in my career and personal growth.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The most impactful book in my personal development journey is my own memoir, Broken Rungs: A Story of Ambition, Hope, Love & Life. Writing and publishing this book was a transformative experience, allowing me to confront my past, understand my purpose, and connect with my emotions on a deeper level. Through the process of sharing my story, I was able to process and heal from past traumas with the help of mental health therapy. I firmly believe that unaddressed trauma is a common human experience, and seeking guidance to create a better version of oneself is a sign of strength, not weakness. By sharing my journey, I hope to inspire others to confront their own challenges and embark on a path of self-discovery and healing.
