We were lucky to catch up with Ronnie Gor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ronnie , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from learning early how to adapt and take responsibility. Growing up in a patriarchal, middle-class environment shaped my independence and problem-solving instincts—skills that later became essential in design and entrepreneurship. Financial uncertainty taught me how to build thoughtfully and move forward without perfect conditions.
Building a design-build practice in a male-dominated industry, moving countries, and navigating long periods of uncertainty required persistence and self-trust. There were moments where the path wasn’t clear, but I kept showing up, learning, and refining my approach.
For me, resilience isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about staying grounded in empathy, integrity, and clarity, standing up for myself and continuing to build with honesty and care, even when the room feels small.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a custom home designer and builder, and the founder of Amorphous Studio, a Los Angeles–based design-build practice. My work brings together architecture, interiors, and construction, allowing me to guide projects from early concept through build-out with clarity and intention. What excites me most is creating homes that are thoughtful, functional, and rooted in how people actually live.
Amorphous Studio was built on the belief that good design should be budget-conscious and grounded in reality. I help clients make smart decisions early, balancing aesthetics, performance, and cost, while maintaining a transparent, collaborative process.
Looking ahead, I’m interested in how evolving tools and technology can support better decision-making without replacing human judgment. Staying grounded, nurturing my own voice, and supporting women in their own respective fields matter deeply to me. As a mother of two boys, I’m equally committed to modeling integrity, respect, and balance—both in work and in life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First, curiosity and ownership. I learned to ask why, reread until I understood, and do my own research instead of accepting things at face value. Real confidence comes from knowing how things work.
Advice: Ask questions and build your foundation before delegating.
Second, self-advocacy. No one will fight for your goals the way you will. I learned to speak up, question norms, and navigate systems with intention.
Advice: Say the hard thing calmly and stand your ground.
Third, emotional intelligence and consistency. Kindness, honesty, and empathy matter. I never compromised on quality, and I learned that steady effort creates long-term results.
Advice: Protect your standards and keep showing up.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
If I had a decade left, I would live it deliberately. I’d compress four decades of learning into focused action—building a thriving practice with work that feels meaningful, well-crafted, and lasting. I’d explore new business ideas, travel for work and learning, and continue growing through culture and collaboration.
I would intentionally invest time in empowering women, because I know how difficult it can be to find your own voice—especially in systems that don’t always make space for it. Helping others speak up, build confidence, and claim their place would be an essential part of how I spend that time.
I’d also make room for creativity beyond architecture—writing, design, fashion, and movement—along with caring for my body and mind, reading deeply, and engaging with the arts. Most of all, I’d want to leave knowing I lived fully, stayed true to my values through struggle, created work I was proud of, and built a strong, hopeful future for my children.
