Meet Ronnie Spice

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ronnie Spice. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ronnie , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
This has taken me many years to except myself and to truly appreciate the rare form I am, once this fell into place so did everything else. But it is always a constant work in progress and process I have to work to keep up, it would be impossible for me to reflect effectiveness and success to others if I did not posses that for myself first. I have to take care of myself and that can be easier said then done at times.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My real name is Jacob Joseph Young and I am 50 yrs old and I am an artist who creates music under the name Ronnie Spice. I also do enjoy film acting when given an opportunity to work on a project. I would say as far as film and music I am drawn to the more experimental and abstract side of life. I like to work and be a part of projects that find themselves very much outside the box. I have just released a new track titled ” Nightshade” and you can find me on most music streaming platforms. I also am in the process of working on an independent film with my good friend and director Andrew Van Baal.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Don’t be afraid to do something different 2. learn to love and really get to know yourself
3. Remember to have fun while creating

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have to say Ishmael Butler the artist ” Shabazz palaces, Digable Planets, Cherrywine” has been a huge inspiration and influence on keepin a creative edge.
