We recently connected with Rosalia Peña and have shared our conversation below.
Rosalia , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by dedicating 20-30 minutes each day to working on something I love. In my case, that would be art. It could be something as small as sketching or writing down my ideas, journaling, or working on my to-do lists that makes my creativity grow, evolve, and expand into bigger things. Simply 20 minutes that can change my life if I keep creating, and most importantly, 20 minutes that remind me who I want to become. Just like a lot can happen in one year, a lot can also occur in 20 minutes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a self-taught artist who specializes in creating vibrant paintings with profound spiritual overtones utilizing pastel pencils, acrylic paint, spray paint, and other techniques on canvases and Bristol vellum paper. I am moved by abstract art because, in my opinion, it allows me to freely express my thoughts and feelings through art. Some of my original pieces, which are on the walls of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (now Neighbor Health), have been sold or auctioned off. I’m pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at this time. Since 2017, I have participated in the “Art of Health Care Fundraiser,” which has given me the courage to continue doing what I love: creating. These opportunities allowed me to develop my brand, Rosaliart.p. Not only do I organize my own Paint and Sip events, but I also get hired to do it at private events, parties, and hotels. The fact that I get to create art alongside people is the most exciting aspect of my art journey.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
When I reflect on my path, the traits, abilities, and knowledge that have had the biggest impact on me are patience, consistency, and remaining loyal to my passions. The biggest tip I can give someone who is just starting out on their path is to block out any negative thoughts that could be coming up. It is better to take your time and succeed rather than to rush and fail. Finally, have a strong belief in yourself. It’s easier said than done, but if I can do it, you can too.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Time is the biggest barrier or difficulty I face. I do a lot of things. In addition to being a mother, I am also a daughter, a worker, a student, an artist, and much more. There never appears to be enough time to complete tasks, work on projects, learn, create art, etc. I’ve been trying to connect with balance in order to address and/or overcome this. When we try to do a lot in a single day, balance is crucial. Remember to breathe and take things one day at a time.
