We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rose Freedman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rose below.
Rose , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from understanding that nothing worth while is easy. I think the main thing in my life that taught me this early on was my journey to get healthy in fitness and exercise! I knew that I would need to apply myself both physically and mentally in order to achieve the results I desired- and I did! I’ve applied the concept that nothing worth while is easy to almost everything in life- working out, graduating from college, learning how to play the guitar, raising my son, and now, running my business!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi, I’m Rose! I’m a fourth-generation Californian who believes in following your own path, slowing down to appreciate the small moments, and finding beauty in the mundane.
I quit my job to stay home with my son so I could be fully present through the early years when they somehow change every day and grow so quickly! I had always loved photography, and once I saw how fleeting the moments were as a mom, I became even more passionate about capturing them all.
At home through the pandemic, my husband gave me a college-level photography education and I practiced on my favorite subject, my cute little chubby-cheeked son. Then with some encouragement (or more like a “Just start!”) from a friend, I officially launched my photography business.
And now I get to partner with the loveliest couples and families to document their love stories. It’s basically a dream come true!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Perfection isn’t the goal, progress is. I wish I knew this earlier in life. I think this has helped me so much in my business and has given me so much freedom to progress!
2. Discipline has been very important. Let’s face it- sometimes there are things we just don’t want to do in life and business… but in order to get the result you want- you have to!
3. Not everything has to make you happy. I think as a creative sometimes you want sparks to fly and you want to FEEL. But sometimes… that doesn’t happen and that’s ok!
Advice for those early in their journey: Keep going and don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter ten!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m ALWAYS looking to collaborate and work with others! Or even just connect! I would love to do more styled shoots and weddings/engagements! I also love checking out and walking venues! If you’re interested in collaborating email me at info@freedmanphotoco.com! I can’t wait to meet ya!
