We caught up with the brilliant and insightful RoShaunda Collins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi RoShaunda , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I believe I receive my resilience from the two most important women in my life. One, being my Mother. The other being from my late Grandmother. Naturally it begins with my Grandmother, whom we called “Big Mama”. This woman was amazing. Yes, we all say this about our Grandparents, but Dorothy Mae Collins was unmatched. She was truly one of kind and loved by so many people. She was a true God fearing woman. We could talk to her about anything. She was fun, took care of her children, her grandchildren, her grandchildren’s children. The woman had a heart of gold. She was a true Gemini, so you definitely didn’t want to cross her, Lol! The day she passed away was the most saddest day of our lives. I tried not to show it because by being the oldest Grandchild, I felt the need to be strong for my children and cousins. But then I remembered, she gave me my Mom, my Aunts, and my Uncles. Each of them has something of my Grandmother in them. She will forever live on through us, especially me. I can’t let her down. I refuse to let her down. She has always believed in me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a Licensed Esthetician. I created ADORE U Aesthetics for you to be your own kind of beautiful. I became an Esthetician because of my love for wanting everyone, male and female to feel more confident about themselves. We are all beautiful in our own way. I aim to bring the beauty from the inside to the outside. We deserve to feel good and look good. Not for others, but for ourselves.
I am a Wife and a Mother of 3 young men; as well as being a bonus Mom of 4 young men and women. We have 7 grandchildren with number 8 expected to arrive in February. I was born in Tyler, Texas. Grew up in Lindale, Texas. I moved to Sherwood, Arkansas when I was in the 5th grade and graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1997. I moved back to Texas a couple of years after graduating. I met my wonderful Husband in March 2022. Moved to Dallas. The rest is history.
I am also a tax preparer. I do have a goal of owning my own tax office as well. I currently have in the works my consulting business, The Elite PR Consulting Firm. It is definitely on the way.
My ultimate goal for ADORE U is to become a well diversified skincare specialist. It will take more training and continuous education but I am more than prepared to put in the work. Becoming a household brand is the ultimate goal. Having my own skincare line and school. Not just in Texas but Nationwide. Maybe even International.
I recently celebrated my Grand Opening and Birthday all in one weekend. When I say it was the most exciting feeling. Something that is mine that no one can take away from me. My family and close friends are my support team. They were there and it gave me the most blessed feeling.
I am located inside Treazure Studios in Farmers Branch, TX. I absolutely love my Treazure Studios family. The opportunities they provide for Lifestyle Professionals is phenomenal. I highly recommend to anyone in the industry who needs to get started to definitely reach out to them. The Farmers Branch location is the first of many.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I believe having a big heart trumps it all. I have a nurturing spirit. I love to uplift others. I love to see everyone win. I never had the skills or knowledge of skincare. It was just interesting to me. I wanted to learn John to treat it, how to help people have confidence, and the thirst to learn and keep learning. It also helps that the beauty industry is one of the money making industries..Lol!
The best advice I could give anyone is definitely have a heart for whatever it may be you want to accomplish. Always care for others. Always be willing to learn. Just because you don’t have the skills or knowledge does not mean you cannot achieve it.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My number one obstacle I face every day is will this work. I ask myself this question every day. If I feel like something isn’t going the way it should, I start doubting myself. They say we are own worst critic.
As I said earlier, I have the best support system anyone could ask for. When I start to doubt myself, I start praying. I reach out to my support system. I have the longest conversations with my Mom. That woman would carry all of our burdens on her back if she could just to make sure we succeed. She is my Big Mama made over. That’s how I get over any obstacles. Talks with her erase all doubts and fears.
