We recently connected with Ross Geraci and have shared our conversation below.
Ross , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Thanks for the question, I keep my creativity alive and avoid burnout by one having many varied interests from film reviews, to my true crime main series, we cover several different cold cases. I even interviewed Tom O’neil author of “Chaos” who has a new Manson family documentary on Netflix. Before that we published our first comic book from PXC (Planet X Comics). More recently I have appeared in two upcoming films a horror titled “Skate to Hell”, and a “The Crow” independent fan film titled “Days of Sodom” in which I was in a fight sequence near the end scene. I also executive produced an indie horror titled “Camera X” Coming soon. Most recently I have accepted a feature role, in a dark super hero film project to be shot locally in San Diego, more to come on that. Basically I keep the variety of my interests showcased on my YouTube channel as diverse as possible. I think my audience is mostly patiently waiting for my next two main series episodes covering the first two cold case attacks of “The Zodiac Killer” from 1968 & 1969 referred to in the true crime community as “Lake Herman Road,” and “Blue Rock Springs” to be shot next month.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So I suppose at this point I am most known for hosting my true crime series “The Zodiac Files” on Planet X Filmworks Youtube channel, where we also do movie reviews, and cover some other topics. Lesser known is the fact that I have crowd funded several film projects, and have currently been cast in some upcoming ones. I am motivated to bring some in house film productions to the channel, short films, and maybe even independent feature films down the line. Check out the new indie film “The Crow: Days of Sodom”, and “Camera X” a new horror film coming soon! AND I may just be playing a villain in a local feature you never know where I will pop up next!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Tenacity, we stuck to building our channel with persistence we always stuck to our script, and didn’t let outside influences overcome us.
Originality, even though the Zodiac Killer is a topic that had been over done big time, my series brought vivid visuals to the California crime scenes, my cinematographer helped big time with his done skills. Even with an “old” topic you can always present something new about it or in a different way.
Find your own path, with true crime cold cases there are many contradictory resources while it’s important to present the facts accurately you may need to determine your own narrative to present to the audience. I do not mean make things up, but zero in on specific areas of focus. If you are starting a channel or a true crime journey, stick to what works for you, none of us in my little crew had any experience before we sought out on this adventure.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Probably due to our realistic “True Crime” content on YouTube it seems the platform has semi “Shadow Banned” us, meaning the algorithm is extremely unfavorable towards our channel. We do all the usual basic promotional steps, but we have also launched “memberships” for those who want early access to exclusive content, and take supporting our channel a step forward. I have also launched the PXF “Patreon” where supporters can join free with their gmail accounts and paid subscription tiers are offered to see more exclusive content I write there. that page can be found at: patreon.com/planetxfilmworks our core audience has stayed intact very well but Youtube definitely makes it a challenge to expand it. That is why more recently I have been branching out into film projects, and networking with film groups.
