Meet Roxan Tucker

We recently connected with Roxan Tucker and have shared our conversation below.

Roxan , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
For a long time I was not sure what it is/was that I was born to do or I wasn’t even sure of what I was meant to do. Getting to a place where I could consider to have found my purpose took many years of trail, error, soul searching, identifying things that I was passionate about, finding out my strengths, talents and even weakness, identifying what I loved the most, what I could do for free if someone asked me. I had to figure things out that made me feel that I’m at my best. I had to simply take ownership of my life and implement my best tools and talents. I stuck to the things that started to matter the most and what brought me the most joy and brought the best outcomes. Things that I could simply not stop thinking about. That is what personal training is for me. I am constantly thinking of ways to be better, to make my clients better, and to give them more value.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a mother to 3 amazing girls, I am a wife and a Personal Trainer and recently just launched my very own women’s athletic clothing line. My personal training career stated at the end of 2019, but soon after in March 2020 the world was shut down. Being new to personal training and new to running a business I was hit hard emotionally, mainly my ego was crushed. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do something amazing and just like that in the blink of an eye everything was placed on pause. I took two weeks to sit in my emotions and cry because I had no idea how to keep pushing through what was so much uncertainty. I had pretty my just started posting my fitness journey on instagram and just watching all the fitness influencers blow up with online training. I had no idea how to pivot to online training. Though I never fully launched an online training platform I was able to pivot to virtual training 1-1 and group classes. To my complete surprise I was able to keep my business running for all of 2020 during the shut down with expert background with an online presence. I didn’t make tons of money but it kept me happy, my spirits high and just seeing my clients smile and still be able to move their bodies made me feel full. This was when I knew that was my passion and my purpose. I continued this passion and continue to improve myself as well as my home gym which allowed me to have steady flow of clients now into going into year 4.
I am now currently working to really showcase my fitness line because many people don’t even know it exist. I currently and a one man show and I may not have all the tools and expertise that I need to get it to where I dream of taking it. I started my line because I am a petite curvy woman/mom and I have excess skin from babies and weight loss and sometimes the leggings I would purchase would not fit very flattering.
As a kid I would dress my dolls up in clothes that I would make and told myself I wanted to have my own fashion brand one day. I felt this was the perfect opportunity to create something that I’m passionate about, I mean I am in active wear daily, so why not create my own.
My line is made from high quality materials, form fitting, very flattering. The leggings are high waisted and have extreme tummy control. The colors are vibrant and fun. My idea is when you look good you feel good and I love to look and feel good when I work out, it pushes me just a little bit harder. That’s my hope for when other women wear my clothes. I also have two styles of resistance bands that you can use right in the comfort of your home. They were created for people with minimal equipment and little gym resources or for anyone that want to add some intensity to their workouts.
My goal for the new year is to expand my education into specifics to be able to offer more valuable services to my in person clients as well as to build an online training platform. Take my active wear live to new heights. I want to look around and see many women in my clothes, not just wearing them but have the exuding the confidence as much as I do when I wear them.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back I would say that my resilience, being a relatable mom, and my knowledge in physical therapy has been the most impactful while on this journey. The advice I would give to someone that is new or early in their journey no matter what the journey is…….just start because you never know how far you will go…It’s better to start and fail than to never start at all. Stay resilient and just keep going, don’t quit when it gets tough that’s when you go even harder. Especially if you have kids looking up to you. My children are one of the reasons I work so hard especially to not quit. I look at myself as their teacher and role model and I want them understand that if you truly want something in life you have to work for for it and stay consistent. You have try and try and when it feels hard you have to try even harder. Nothing about my journey was easy, I didn’t have help, I have been doing this all alone, I had to learn to become resourceful, I had to stick with it. And if it makes you/others feel good at the end of the day, that there is your reason to keep going. Many people quit early because the results don’t come quick enough, you don’t have to be a part of that statistic. Give 110 % and keep going until you get the results that you hoped for. Which is what I continue to do everyday.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The books that has truly helped me this year is “Atomic Habits” by James Clear and “The 6 Habits of Growth by Brendon Burchard”. Before starting my business I was very impulsive and never really had structure. I would say that may have hindered my in my business and career growth. I really had to train myself to make schedules and plans and that has been a journey to say the least. Habit tracking helps with motivation and is rewarding.
