Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roxana Marquez_Pavone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Roxana , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
From my personal perspective, I have come to realize that there are fundamental practices I’ve been following to keep my creativity alive. Initially, I hadn’t reflected on what I truly do, but now I can recognize how valuable curiosity is and how essential it is to pay attention to my surroundings. My world is filled with wonders, from the subtle textures of nature to the vibrant colors that breathe life into my everyday existence.
I’m deeply drawn to different cultures, their symbolism, and mythologies. I feel that these boundless sources of inspiration form the foundation of many of my creative works. The mystery and depth behind each story or symbol ignite a tremendous passion in me, which I strive to transform into something unique and meaningful.
I can’t help but feel excitement when learning about different materials and techniques. Each of them has its own personality and possibilities, and exploring them broadens my creative horizons. The notion of achieving something distinct, something that challenges conventions, constantly motivates me to experiment and apply these discoveries in my work.
Furthermore, I’ve discovered that to keep my creativity constantly evolving, it’s essential for me to immerse myself in new experiences. I research, read, listen attentively, and observe with open eyes. I try to learn from and nourish myself with the people around me, including my husband (José Antonio), my daughter (Maia), and my father-in-law (Pepe). Whenever we have some free time, we engage in excellent conversations about a variety of topics—some related to art, life, others seeking solutions to everyday problems—and from there, a multitude of ideas emerge, each one sparking the beginning of another. I’m convinced that nourishing myself with my environment, both within and outside my comfort zone, is the key to keeping my imagination active and, ultimately, to being more creative in every aspect of my life.
My focus on curiosity, attention to detail, appreciation for cultures, and willingness to learn and experiment with new materials and techniques have allowed me to cultivate and sustain my vibrant creativity. My strong belief in the importance of immersing myself in new experiences and enriching myself with the world around me continues to guide my path toward full creative expression.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Roxana Márquez. I am the daughter of two amazing people: my mother, Rosa Pavone, born into a small family of Italian immigrants who came to Venezuela after World War II (post-war). She was the only girl among four brothers and, though she inherited the strong character of the Pavone family, she also possesses a smiling, sweet, loving, noble, and fair personality, similar to my grandmother. My mother had an excellent and playful sense of humor, along with a natural inclination for reading. She was a pianist, a teacher, a doctor in agricultural sciences, a painter, and the person my three brothers and I turned to before internet search engines existed. She was born in Italy and became a naturalized Venezuelan citizen, developing a deep love for Venezuela, the land where she grew up with my grandparents and my three beloved uncles.
My father, Rodolfo Márquez, is a man with a big and noble heart. He is an agricultural expert, a singer, and a player of the “cuatro” (a traditional Venezuelan string instrument) at family gatherings (to whom you have to whisper the lyrics, as he tends to forget them). Born in the small town of Chejende, Trujillo state, Venezuela, he comes from a large and beloved family in my homeland. This family is filled with special individuals: writers, poets, musicians, artists, and workers of the land. They are a supportive, affectionate, and respectful family.
I am the oldest of four siblings from my father’s second marriage. I love all my siblings and my entire family. My character was shaped amidst the love, ethics, compassion, and good manners of my family, my people, my little town, and my homeland.
I arrived in this beautiful country almost 8 years ago. My husband, José Antonio, and I arrived with our little daughter Maia, filled with expectations, dreams, a lot of faith, and the hope of giving our daughter a better future without fear.
I hold a degree in public accounting from the University of the Andes, although I didn’t really practice the profession. Instead, I engaged in activities related to art, design, and theater. I did this alongside my father-in-law Pepe and my husband José Antonio. Simultaneously, my husband had an audiovisual production company in which we also worked together. We carried out various activities such as events, graduations, videos, and photography. Additionally, we worked with sublimation, vinyl, food labels, and a variety of related activities. This led to the idea of working with design-related products, sublimation, and other related areas. Currently, my focus is on offering products that go beyond appearance, products that evoke emotions in those who acquire them. At the moment, we offer a variety of products such as mugs, shirts, caps, plates, keychains, and puzzles. While I have designs from my husband, my father-in-law, and myself, I’m not only interested in working with our designs. I also want to give our customers the opportunity to personalize our products with their own designs, photos, drawings, names, etc.
Imagine a child, whether a nephew, child, or classmate of our children, assembling a puzzle. Upon completing it, they discover that it’s a drawing they made themselves, a family photograph, an image with their best friend, or something they really like. Wouldn’t that be exciting for them? I think so. Or imagine having a morning coffee from a mug that has a special moment or a phrase printed on it that evokes beautiful memories, hope, or encouragement for the day. Wouldn’t that be great? For me, achieving or at least attempting to offer products with meaning, that generate positive emotions and moments of happiness, is fabulous. At this moment, that’s my focus and that of our family, because it’s not just my vision, but also that of my husband, my daughter, and my father-in-law, who support and collaborate with me every step of the way.
