Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roxanne Cox. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Roxanne with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethics from my parents. My mom is an accountant and tax preparer. For my entire life, I have watched her interact with clients with patience and meticulous attention to detail, especially when it comes to the numbers. My mom can make numbers dance and turn tax season into a fiesta, literally as Salsa is playing. Her dedication to precision and commitment to client satisfaction have been a constant source of inspiration. Witnessing her work ethic has instilled in me a strong foundation for diligence and thoroughness in my own pursuits. From my dad, I get my organizational skills. Being a military veteran, he instilled in me a sense of discipline and attention to detail that shapes how I approach tasks and responsibilities in every aspect of my life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As the founder of Pasion de la Piel and a devoted wife and mother to two amazing girls, I’ve consistently emphasized the significance of selfcare. Recognizing that nurturing oneself is the key to sustaining a vibrant and fulfilling life, both personally and professionally. To me, skincare isn’t just a routine; it’s a vital aspect of selfcare, especially in teaching my daughters its importance.
My journey into the world of skincare began with a personal need. I’ve always cherished the feeling of smooth, well-maintained skin. When my go-to scrub was no longer available and no alternatives matched its quality, I embarked on a mission to craft my own. After perfecting the blend of sugar and oils, the feedback from family and friends was clear: these handmade & natural skincare products deserved a wider audience.
With a Masters in Community Health Education and over two decades in public health, I’ve been an advocate for healthy living, educating and guiding communities. Growing up in a Panamanian household, tea wasn’t just a beverage; it was a tradition and a source of wellness. Merging my love for tea with skincare was a natural evolution, leading to the unique and nourishing products of Pasión de la Piel. Therefore, you will find tea flowers infused in our Body Scrubs, Body Oils and Bath Teas.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities that impacted my journey was passion, persistence and research skills combined with my science background. I have a passion to empower individuals to nurture their skin and overall well-being. My persistent nature tells me to keep going and never give up. With a degree in Biology and Community Health Education as well as 20 years of research experience in Public health, I developed my knowledge of the skin and applied a meticulous approach to formulate products that use natural ingredients to foster skin health.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Currently, I am the jack of all trades for my brand, overseeing everything from product development and marketing to customer relations, which can be overwhelming at times. Therefore, having a detailed calendar helps to keep me on track and organized. I also recognize that without me this company will not succeed. So my health and sanity is priority. When I feel anxious by the overwhelming tasks, I make it a point to take a moment to close my eyes and feel my breath. A few minutes of calm usually gives me the clarity and energy to keep pushing forward. As I said before, self care is key!
