We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Roy Dinges a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Roy, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from my upbringing. I am very thankful for a family that never complained or felt a victim when hard times came. My family was always a light when things seemed dark, they led by example.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I grew up in south central rural PA on a farm. I was raised in the racehorse business and when I turned 18 I hit the rodeo trail. I rode bulls professionally for 13 years. After my bull riding career was over, I went back to training racehorses. I would spend my winters in Florida and my summers in Pennsylvania all while training horses.
In 2021 I had gotten a call from a friend who needed help with his merch line, Luciano Western Wear, and he encouraged me to move to Texas and help out. Well, a few months later I packed up and moved to Texas where I shared a house with four other guys who were TikTok famous you could say. I had just started TikTok right before I moved to Texas and I thought I might as well join them. We called ourselves the Tratter House.
Tratter is a play on the word tractor as many children can’t pronounce tractor, they end up calling it a tratter. Blake (Bmoe) who is part of our group is the one who went viral for his videos playing with toy tratters.
Now years later, Tratter House consists of three which is Blake Moore, Nick Luciano and myself. We have an exclusive sponsorship with Ariat, the leading western wear brand.
We travel the country going to events and we’re really big advocates of the western/agriculture world. We also do alot with nonprofit charity events that support our veterans and other charities that find retired rachorses good, caring homes after their career is finished.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Speak positivity into your life and others. Never open the door to defeat. I’ve heard many people say “This is going to be a bad day”. I tell them it wasn’t but it will be now because you just opened the door and set the tone. Bad things happen but it is how we face those situations that will make us the victor or the victim. We can never become the victor if we always play the victim.
2) If in a relationship or friendship, “fight” over things that matter. When I say “fight” I mean discuss and talk about things that have substance. Because someone forgot to turns the lights off doesn’t constitute being nasty to each other. Little things like that happen. You’ll be better off laughing together than fighting over things you’ll forget about five minutes later.
3) Live life and enjoy every minute. People hold themselves back from traveling or going on adventures because of money or work. Trust me, if you want it bad enough, make it happen. This country has so many wonderful beauties that people miss because something is always holding them back.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents and grandparents led by example. You don’t need to set the rules when you set the example. They were hard working, kind, generous and would help anyone in need. I’ve seen the struggles we went through when I was a child and never once did I hear complaining or excuses or blame from my parents or grandparents. They stayed positive and they became the overcomers and went on to flourish.
