We recently connected with Rubaid Rajwani and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rubaid with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I developed my work ethic by observing not only my parents but also a long line of family members who were business owners. Growing up, I realized that very few of my relatives including cousins, uncles, aunts, or others worked for someone else. Watching them manage their businesses, I saw firsthand the level of responsibility and dedication it takes to succeed.
They taught me that running a business means carrying overhead, where the business must thrive before you can reap its rewards. It requires constant innovation to stay relevant, mentoring employees to be competitive, and tackling the inevitable challenges head-on. These experiences shaped my mindset into one of perseverance and resilience which I like to call a “Do or Die” approach to achieving success.
I realized early on that I had a textbook example of success right in front of me, and the key ingredient was work ethic. Immersed in this environment from a young age, I watched my parents diligently manage their small businesses and shops well before I was even a teenager. Despite the challenges, we always had everything we needed. Later in life, I gained an even deeper respect for them when I learned that most small businesses fail within the first two to five years. Surviving beyond that window takes resilience, adaptability, and relentless effort which were qualities my parents demonstrated every day.
I also came to understand that in life, you have to choose your level of difficulty. For some, waking up, sitting in traffic, and going to a job they dislike is a form of misery. Owning a business, on the other hand, comes with long hours and sacrifices, such as time away from family. But once you establish a routine and your work ethic drives you to improve daily, success becomes a matter of persistence. Over time, you earn the ability to shape your own schedule and build a life on your own terms.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In my real estate career, I primarily focus on two key types of clients.
The first group includes younger, first-time homebuyers who are stepping into the world of homeownership. I take pride in guiding them through this monumental milestone with the trust and professionalism they deserve. I see these relationships as a journey where we grow together. I truly believe helping them buy their first home today means I may assist them again in the future when they’re ready to upgrade as their family grows. Referrals naturally stem from doing right by clients, and in real estate, reputation is everything. This business thrives on trust, and I’m committed to building it one satisfied client at a time.
The second group comprises individuals who need to sell their homes due to life-altering events. These situations often come with added stress, and I am passionate about leveraging my listing expertise to ensure they leave no money on the table, especially when every dollar counts. Providing peace of mind and delivering exceptional results during such critical moments is incredibly rewarding.
I’m also expanding my focus to high-value luxury listings, investors, and developers. Working with investors and developers has taught me valuable lessons about creativity and work ethic. Developers, for instance, pour relentless effort into bringing their visions to life, whether it’s an apartment complex, a shopping center, or another transformative project. Being part of that process has been inspiring and has further deepened my commitment to excellence in this field.
At the heart of my work is a simple yet profound goal: to leave the community better than I found it. As a real estate professional, I have the privilege of shaping neighborhoods, helping families find their dream homes, and supporting meaningful development. It’s a role I take seriously, and I strive to make a positive impact with every transaction.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge I’ve found to be most impactful and beneficial are:
1. Be a People Person
Strong communication skills are essential in sales. This includes active listening and clear, persuasive expression. Confidence in your expertise also plays a key role sincerely because when you exude confidence, others are more likely to trust and align with your goals and intentions. A true people person understands clients’ needs by attentively listening to their concerns and preferences and effectively communicating solutions, whether that involves explaining complex details or presenting the benefits of a product or service.
2. Be Empathetic and Emotionally Intelligent
In both my days owning car dealerships and my current real estate career, I’ve learned that large purchases are deeply emotional decisions. Being able to sense and respond to clients’ emotions is crucial for building trust and rapport. Empathy allows you to approach transactions with a genuine focus on finding solutions that benefit the client, rather than simply aiming to close a deal. This approach not only creates satisfied clients but also fosters long-term relationships.
3. Cultivate Relationship-Building Skills
Networking is important, but it requires genuine engagement to be effective. Simply attending a networking event and scrolling through your phone won’t build meaningful connections. In that scenario, you’d be better off cold calling from the comfort of your office. Successful relationship building involves being present, intentional, and proactive, whether it’s through face-to-face interactions, follow-ups, or consistent efforts to maintain connections.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking to innovate and collaborate with like minded individuals. I am a firm believer everyone has a unique trait that can be utilized for greatness but they may or may not have had the ability to express it to the world. For example, if you judge a fish on it’s ability to climb a tree, it will think it’s whole life it is a failure compared to if you judged it on it’s ability to stay underwater.
The best sources of connecting with me are Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram. I urge anyone reading this that is looking to take their life to the next level financially, mentally and with the mindset to spread joy and wellness for society along the way to reach out to me. I look forward to hearing from you.
