We recently connected with Rubi Barba and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rubi, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. My mom was a stay-at-home wife, and my dad worked long hours — sometimes seven days a week — to support our family. Even though their roles were different, they both showed me what true hard work and love look like. My dad’s dedication and strength taught me the value of perseverance and responsibility, while my mom’s patience, care, and endless effort at home showed me that hard work isn’t just about having a job — it’s about showing up for the people you love every single day.
Together, they showed me that real success comes from giving your best, even when no one’s watching. Whenever I feel tired or discouraged, I think about how they both kept going — for us — and it reminds me to stay grateful, stay humble, and always keep trying.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the founder of Forma Haus Lagree Studio, a boutique fitness space centered around mindful movement, strength, and community. Forma Haus was born from my love for the Lagree method and a desire to create a space where people could not only challenge their bodies but also reconnect with themselves in a supportive, elevated environment.
What excites me most about what I do is seeing people transform — not just physically, but in their confidence and mindset. Lagree is such a powerful method because it’s high-intensity but low-impact, so it meets people exactly where they are. Every class reminds me that strength looks different for everyone, and that’s something worth celebrating.
Forma Haus is really about intention — from the way our classes flow, to the design of the space, to the community we’re building. It’s more than a studio; it’s a place to feel inspired, capable, and strong in your own form.
Recently, we’ve been expanding our community through creative experiences that go beyond the studio. We hosted a mocktail event and followed it with Megas & matcha, bringing together movement, mindfulness, and connection in unique ways. These events have been a fun way to connect with our members and the local community, and I’m excited to continue exploring new collaborations, events, and offerings that celebrate wellness, empowerment, and mindful living.
There’s so much momentum right now, and I’m grateful to be creating something that helps people feel good — inside and out.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities have been the most impactful in my journey: resilience, vision, and connection.
Resilience has been key — building Forma Haus came with challenges I never anticipated, from navigating the day-to-day of running a studio to figuring out how to grow in a meaningful way. Learning to adapt, keep moving forward, and embrace setbacks as lessons has made all the difference.
Vision has guided me every step of the way. I didn’t just want to open a fitness studio; I wanted to create a space that felt intentional, empowering, and inspiring. Having a clear idea of what I wanted to build — and why — helped me stay focused and motivated even when things got tough.
Connection has been equally important. From my clients to collaborators, the people around me have shaped my growth in ways I couldn’t have done alone. Building authentic relationships and a supportive community has been just as valuable as any technical skill.
For anyone starting out, my advice is to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, clarify your vision and purpose, and invest in genuine connections. Take risks, celebrate the small wins, and stay curious — the journey itself is where so much growth happens.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to balance vision with action. As a founder, it’s easy to get caught up in big ideas for Forma Haus, but I’ve realized that meaningful progress comes from pairing those ideas with consistent, focused steps every day.
I’ve also grown a lot in community-building and collaboration. Hosting our past events showed me how powerful it is to create moments where people can connect, move, and feel inspired together. It reminded me that the heart of Forma Haus isn’t just the studio — it’s the people and energy that make it come alive.
Finally, I’ve learned to trust the process and let go of perfectionism. Not every initiative goes perfectly, and that’s okay — embracing those learning moments has helped me grow as both a business owner and a person.
