Meet Ruby Blu

We recently connected with Ruby Blu and have shared our conversation below.

Ruby, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my life experiences, and having a strong family support system that has helped me navigate them. Each and every young person has their challenges that they experience, and I was no different. In the midst of all of the things I experienced, and their challenges, was a strong group of family and friends that stood behind me. I like to think of my resilience as being both genetic and circumstantial; a gift from my ancestors in the past that lives within me, and a result of having real-time support from my family and friends during difficult times.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am am musician, a poet, and an educator. I love connecting with people through the humanity of music. Drawing on universal interpersonal and emotional experiences is a big part of what keeps me engaged in all aspects of the music process – teaching, writing, performing, and recording.

Music really is an expression of human emotion, and I feel that way about poetry too!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If you want to be any kind of creator, understanding composition from a literary standpoint is really important! But beyond that knowing how to work with people is huge. If you can’t manage interpersonal conflicts or relationships, you are pretty much doomed in all collaborative areas of your life. The people skills are critical.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Outrageous Openness by Tosha Silver taught me to let go and go with the flow, I really think everyone should read it no matter their views on spirituality and religion,
