We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ruby Sussex a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ruby , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I’ve developed my confidence and self-esteem by pushing myself to say “yes” to as many opportunities as possible, even when they scare me. I believe growth comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone, so I try to get involved in anything that helps me learn, connect with others, and develop new skills.
One of the biggest ways I’ve built my confidence is through creating content. I film, script, and edit my own YouTube videos and host my own YouTube show on my channel, RubyTubeYT. I interview content creators and celebrity guests in an honest, authentic way, and we often do something fun in the guest’s style. My goal is to inspire my audience to chase their dreams and show them that even people they look up to have struggled with self-doubt. Being on camera regularly has definitely helped me become more confident in myself and my voice.
Growing up, I was bullied and often felt like I didn’t fit in. But I’ve learned not to let other people’s opinions define me. That’s one of the most important lessons when it comes to confidence, you have to believe in yourself and your dreams, even when others don’t. Listening to negativity can crush your self-esteem, but choosing to stay true to who you are builds resilience.
Ultimately, I’ve built confidence by taking on challenges that push me, whether it’s public speaking, leading a team, or showing up to events alone. Every time I do something I might have once said “no” to, I grow. It’s not about being fearless, but about moving forward despite the fear.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi, my name is Ruby Sussex! I’m a 16-year-old aspiring children’s TV presenter and passionate content creator! I’m currently building my brand as a young presenter by creating uplifting, fun, and inspiring content designed to entertain and empower others, especially young people like me.
I recently launched my own YouTube show, Unscripted, where I film creative collaborations with other content creators and guests. Each episode is tailored to the guest’s unique personality and style, which keeps each episode exciting and fresh. The show is all about stepping outside of your comfort zone, and inspiring the younger generation to chase their dreams and to show them that celebrities and people they look up to aren’t perfect! The goal is to show my viewers that the guests that they look up to may have faced similar doubts and challenges that the viewers are facing in the industry! I want to give my audience hope to believe in themselves and go and achieve their goals after listening to their idols and people they look up to! Going outside of my comfort zone is something I try to do with every video, and I hope it inspires my audience to do the same in their own lives by going after their own dreams. On my Yotube channel I also post YouTube shorts, these videos include street interviews or fun challenges where I step outside of my comfort zone!
One of the most exciting milestones in my journey so far was being selected for Adam Beales’ Channel Boost programme in 2024. I had the opportunity to work with Adam B and his team for 8 weeks alongside other amazing young creators. That experience gave me a huge boost in confidence and helped shape who I am as both a presenter and content creator today. Around May 2025, I had the chance to pitch my dream of becoming a presenter and YouTuber to entrepreneur Simon Squibb. His encouragement and advice inspired me to create ‘Unscripted’ and host my own show!
This journey means so much to me because I know what it’s like to feel left out. I was bullied at school and often felt like I didn’t fit in, but watching my favourite creators gave me hope and reminded me to keep dreaming and going after my goals. They made me feel less alone, and now, I would love to be that person for someone else. I want to be a comfort watch. Someone who brings a smile to someones face, offers inspiration, and reminds viewers that they’re not alone and they can achieve their goals and they just need to believe.
My mission is to spread positivity, make people laugh, and connect/collaborate with others through authentic and creative storytelling. I want Unscripted to be a space where people can learn, laugh, and leave feeling a little more hopeful and confident in their own journey.
I’m super excited to be releasing the pilot episode of Unscripted very soon on my YouTube channel, RubyTubeYT!! So stay tuned! There’s so much more to come, and I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on everything so far, I’d say the biggest things that have helped me grow are believing in myself, bouncing back from setbacks, and saying yes to new challenges.
Believing in myself has been a huge part of my journey. I was bullied throughout my school life, but I never let that stop me from chasing my dreams. Watching creators I looked up to gave me hope, and now I want to be that person for someone else. If you’re just starting out, my advice is to back yourself, even when it feels uncomfortable, don’t wait for permission or approval from others just be yourself.
Learning to bounce back when things don’t go as planned is so important especially in the world of content creating and social media. Whether it’s a video that doesn’t do well or a plan that falls through, I’ve learned to see setbacks as chances to improve. Staying motivated isn’t always easy, but taking breaks when you need them and reminding yourself why you started helps you keep going. Make sure you have your WHY very clear at the beginning of your journey, this will be so helpful when you feel like giving up!
I’ve grown the most when I’ve said yes to things that scare me, like street interviews or launching my YouTube show. Every time I’ve stepped outside of my comfort zone, I’ve discovered something new about myself. If something makes you nervous and excited, that’s usually a sign to go for it. If your nervous, it shows that you care about what you do, so keep going!
One thing I’ve learned is that if you wait for everything to be perfect, the “right time” might never come. Sometimes you just have to start, even if it feels messy or scary. I’ve learnt that it will never feel like the right time and that you may always procrastinate so just start now!
For anyone beginning their journey: you don’t have to have it all figured out. Take one step at a time, try new things, and trust the process. But most importantly BELIEVE in yourself and your ideas!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am looking to find people who have either a passion, talent or business or something that they want to share to inspire my audience! I’m especially excited to connect with fellow creators and inspiring individuals who want to share their stories and bring positivity to young audiences.
I host a YouTube show called Unscripted, where I feature different content creators and celebrities as guests. Each episode is unique and tailored to the guest’s style, with fun interviews and creative challenges or tasks. I’m always looking for new collaborators who are willing to step outside their comfort zone and join me as guests on one of my episode on the show. It’s a great opportunity to share your journey, inspire others, and try something new together!
Im all about authenticity and sharing the Ups and downs in your journey and where you want to head in the future with your niche/talent or business!
