We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rudo Musekiwa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rudo, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding my purpose continues to be a journey of discovery for me. I began having a sense of purpose when I realized that creativity is a space that allows me to reach people; it is a catalyst for meaningful conversation & also a space where others can find resonance in the artistic expression of my personal views or human experience. I found a deep sense of purpose in realizing that the work I create (in whatever medium), is transformative. Creating work that allows those who encounter it to pause, contemplate, be present & mindful is a necessary revolution in a fast-paced & digitized world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a multi-hyphenate creative – I primarily consult as a Creative Director / Digital Designer for local & global clients; I am also a practicing visual artist & musician based in South Africa. For me, creativity isn’t confined to a single medium; it’s a living language that can speak through anything when led by intention.
I am currently invested in expanding my recently launched textile art collection that includes a range of bespoke African textiles & wallpaper art.
What excites me most about what I do is the alchemy of creation — how something unseen can become form. My brand and my art are really about embodying that process — intentional , meaningful creation.
Looking ahead, I’m preparing to exhibit internationally and further develop my artistic brand through collaboration & beautifully curated showcases.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
• Adaptability / agility – navigating changes or new developments in the creative sphere is important – have an openness to new ways of working & explore integrating new resources (eg. AI tech) into your workflow. The ability to pivot as a creative entrepreneur is also important.
• Relationships – cultivating & nurturing solid, healthy relationships in your workspace & personal life benefits your overall journey as someone pursuing a career space.
• Refine / Develop your craft continuously – challenge yourself, explore & grow through experimentation
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am definitely looking for more cross-cultural collaborative projects. If you’re a creative and you’re keen on collaborating or curating meaningful showcases (multidisciplinary) – you’re welcome to DM me on instagram: @rudothegift
