We were lucky to catch up with Rudy Jimenez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rudy, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My dad has always been the backbone of income with five kids and working two jobs. I remember going with my dad on weekends to a part-time job as a mechanic. I would hang out all day and watch my dad work on vehicles and sometimes hang out with other kids whose families owned mechanic shops. I was brought up to work early. I started working at 13 as a paperboy, selling candy, fast food, construction, and acting. To this day I can not sit still. I have to be doing something. I am an on hands type of person. Watching my dad going out to earn income has made me realize if you want it. You have to go out there and earn it!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a professional actor with several credits on IMDB. Most of my Acting has been in Independent, Short, Student Films, and Commercials. Being able to express my craft through a camera lens brings me joy. Entertaining makes me feel accomplished and a source of giving back to the people. I just picked up my 3rd talent agent this year. I have a few things lined up for 2023 and am excited to get started.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Networking, I am very strong in this category and many of you should be as well. I’ve met so many wonderful people through premiers and social media. I can’t stress Networking enough. Listening is a strong category that I have personally seen on set. Remember you have a job to do. Sometimes you can be on set for long hours. Listen for the Director’s input. They have a visual of what they are looking for in projects. Being kind and respectful goes a long way. Be prepared for live Auditions, cold reads, self-tapes, and being on set. It can be never racking at times but a few deep breaths and dig in on the action. Study the scene to book the role and be prepared to bring your skills to the set. Some Directors want the script memorized word for word and some allow improv. No matter what come to the set strong.
Getting started can be a challenge. Especially when you live in the middle of nowhere. Search for local events online. Social media has many Acting classes online. In-person would be better but sometimes life gets in the way. Get started in student films and background work to get experience. Always be professional and bring your A-game!
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents raised me in a loving home with one brother and 3 sisters. My dad was the bread maker and my mom took care of us kids. I was taught to respect my elders and help when needed. My parents got me into acting. When living in Canyon Country, CA a talent agent had an event. We decided to check it out and ended up signing with a talent agent on the spot at thirteen years old. I praise my dad and mom for giving me this opportunity.
