Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rukshana Triem. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rukshana, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I have learned Resilience from being a former Refugee.
I am the older of five children and living in the refugee camp was about survival. My job was to wait for food in lines not knowing if I would make it to the beginning of the line so I could get my container poured into boiled beans with water and no salt or spices.
The adversity of that survival set the tone for the rest of my life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Meet the Founder for African Fashion show portland Oregon and Founder of Firmina Foundation Empowering Children through Education Building schools in Mozambique.
Rukshana is a Women’s Lifestyle Coach for her Company called Womens Lifestyle coaching LLC.
Rukshana Triem, came from Zambia by way of Malawi and Mozambique. At 15 years old her family came to America to start a new life with hope, promise and excitement. After many years of learning, living, an autobiography Called Living from Strength and Faith a rough hike From Refugee to Success, and starting a coaching business, she decided to take her Grandmother Firmina’s advice and build schools.
She wanted to give back to those countries that poured passion for education into her. Children have previously been educated under mango trees and as romantic as that may sound to some, it is not the optimum situation for learning.
The Foundation was founded in 2018. After several fundraisers from a general auction in 2019, to a full-blown women’s conference with a fashion show in 2020, a school was built in Mozambique. During the time of Covid, Rukshana reflected on what made her passionate…the Fashion Show! Thus, our 4th Annual Fashion Show was born. The additional auction came about when she made a trip to Africa.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Building connections and communty
To be able to grow we need to learn how to unlearn and relearn. Hangout with people who speak different languages who grew up in different countries that is understandable different aspects of lifestyle and will help you to understand and have more compassion to life and expand our way do thinking and growth.
Living my former
Country of Mozambique then Malawi and Zambia I learned how to adapt to different languages and environments. In early years I came to understand constant change is part of life. And that’s the way to develop a successful career and communities.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m looking for business partners to collaborate with who has a passion for education and wanting to travel to Africa and experience building schools and connect with the community here in Portland, Oregon while collaborating and putting African Fashion show together anyone who has a will to dream big to collaborate and help communities here in the Pacific Northwest while fundraising for building schools in three different countries of Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia.
