Meet Rumur Wootten

We were lucky to catch up with Rumur Wootten recently and have shared our conversation below.

Rumur, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I’ve always believed that you don’t have to be the smartest, the most talented, or the most naturally gifted person in the room to succeed—because you can always outwork talent, brains, and beauty. My work ethic comes from an unshakable commitment to showing up early, staying late, and constantly going above and beyond for my clients and students.

Success in any industry isn’t just about skill; it’s about persistence, resilience, and the willingness to do what others won’t.
I built my businesses by embracing every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow, even when the odds weren’t in my favor.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder of a thriving medspa and multiple successful laser certification programs designed to elevate the next generation of aesthetic professionals. My mission has always been to set the best standards in medical aesthetics and cosmetic laser use—both in the services we offer to clients and the education we provide to future laser technicians.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing the impact of our laser certification programs. Over the years, we’ve trained and licensed some of the most talented professionals in the industry, many of whom have gone on to launch their own businesses and transform their careers. Watching my students step into high-paying, fulfilling careers is something I take immense pride in.

This year, we’re taking things to the next level! In March 2025, we’re expanding into North Scottsdale with a state-of-the-art facility that will redefine luxury aesthetics. This new space is designed to pamper our patients with cutting-edge treatments while also licensing and mentoring the best aesthetic talent in the Valley. It’s not just a medspa—it’s a hub for the best in beauty, innovation, and education.

But that’s not all. if Scottsdale is out of reach, we also have some exciting collaborations coming to the East Valley which will bring even more opportunities for advanced aesthetic training. We’re working on partnerships that will make high-level laser education more accessible than ever, helping even more aspiring professionals break into this incredible industry.

I want our clients and students to know that this expansion is about more than just growth; it’s about raising the bar for cosmetic laser treatments and training. Whether you’re a patient looking for top-tier treatments by one of our expert instructors or an aspiring laser technician ready to launch your career, we’re here to provide an unmatched experience.

We look forward to welcoming you in our new location—I can’t wait to share more soon! 🚀✨

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Oh good question, the three qualities have been most impactful in my success are resilience, adaptability, and strategic planning.

There were many moments in my journey where everything was falling apart. Losing my first medspa overnight due to a greedy investor was a defining moment. I could have let that break me, but instead, I used it as fuel. That was just one of a thousand challenges. You will face so many setbacks, but the ones who succeed are those who refuse to quit. I think everyone should develop a resilience and get back on the horse. Be open to learning from your failures, don’t waste time beating yourself up over mistakes, just recalibrate and find a way forward.

Adaptability is essential! The aesthetics industry evolves super fast—new technologies, trends, and regulations can change overnight. I built my brand by staying ahead of the curve, whether it was offering new laser modalities or pivoting my business model during economic shifts. We’ve had to completely change our demographics many of times too. For those just starting out: Stay curious, never stop learning, and be willing to change course when necessary.

You must be good at chess, strategy is everything. From scaling my clinic and training programs to expanding into new markets, every move I’ve made has been intentional. If you’re early in your journey, focus on long-term vision, surround yourself with mentors, and a-players with eyes on the same sights.

Again, if you are just starting out, OUTWORK everyone, become adaptable, and always be thinking three steps ahead. Success isn’t just about talent it’s about playing the long game.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I firmly believe in the power of going all in on our strengths—so much so that I apply this philosophy across every area of my life, from parenting to business. While it’s important to address weaknesses, I’ve seen firsthand that leaning into what we’re naturally great at builds confidence, momentum, and ultimately leads to greater success.

This realization became crystal clear to me as a parent. One of my children excelled in math but struggled with reading. Initially, we poured all our energy into improving their reading skills, but all it did was leave them frustrated and discouraged. It was hard to motivate them to complete the assignments. It wasn’t until we shifted our focus onto their strength in math, challenging them with more advanced problems, and praising their success—that something amazing happened. That confidence spilled over into reading, and suddenly, they were more willing to tackle the challenge. They actually won the reading award after making that switch which wouldn’t have been possible if we stayed focusing on the weakness.

I see this exact parallel in our laser training programs as well. Some students naturally thrive with the technical aspects of laser operation, while others are incredibly strong in the patient interaction or social media marketing. Instead of forcing them to master every single skill equally, I encourage them to hone their strengths first because once they feel confident and capable in their best areas, they develop the motivation to work through their weaknesses.

In business, the same applies. I stopped wasting time trying to be the best at things that didn’t come naturally—instead, I built a team that fills in the gaps. Success doesn’t come from being average at everything; it comes from being exceptional at something. So whether it’s parenting, teaching, or running a business, my advice is to lean into your strengths. Build confidence. Let that confidence fuel your ability to improve in other areas. That’s where real growth happens.
