Meet Rusel Faris Al Rubaae

We recently connected with Rusel Faris Al Rubaae and have shared our conversation below.

Rusel, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from my biggest role model, my father. Even though he got sick at a young age and had to go through much his whole life until his very last day on earth, I’ve never met anyone as optimistic as he was. His face was always filled with happiness, even though he was struggling, you would never see it on him. He was such a strong, kind, and beautiful soul and he taught me how to always see the bright side of things. He was a real fighter, even his name Faris means knight in Arabic. I owe the best traits of my personality to him.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a 26-year-old Arabic woman who grew up in Sweden. I moved from Sweden to LA 5th of January 2023 to try something that has always interested me, acting. I’ve never done acting before that, I worked as a Visual Merchandiser in Sweden so this was nothing I was familiar with. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to try it and see if I liked it and where it would lead me. Now one year later I’ve discovered it really is something I love doing. I finished the acting certificate at UCLA Extension, and on the side, I filmed four short films with lead roles, did background work and some other acting projects as well.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the three qualities that helped me in this journey are, being brave, optimistic, and mentally strong. Doing this journey isn’t easy, it will not be all unicorns and fairytales, it will hurt you in many ways, and be tough on your mental health. So you have to be brave enough to leave everything comfortable back home and go for it, think optimistically even though you don’t know what you are getting yourself into, and be mentally strong when you realize how tough it is. Even though it won’t be easy, I promise you, you won’t regret it. Worst case scenario, you’d come home with a ton of new beautiful things you got to experience.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Now after finishing my acting certificate, I went from having a student visa to an OPT visa. That means I am now allowed to work here in the US! So I am of course looking for acting gigs. But I am also looking for a job in the entertainment industry, for example in a casting agency. That would be so educative and fun to try on! I love the whole entertainment industry and I would love to learn about it from different perspectives.
