Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Russell Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Russell, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience and work ethic stem from my upbringing on a family farm. Growing up, I learned the value of hard work and determination. The daily routine of waking up early to complete chores and then moving on to other tasks or school taught me the importance of discipline and responsibility. Although I no longer milk goats, those early mornings instilled in me a strong work ethic that continues to drive me today. Additionally, as a young entrepreneur, I developed a knack for finding opportunities to earn money like collecting aluminum cans. We also started a successful worm business for fishing bait and would spend evenings with flashlights catching worms. This taught me the value of putting in the effort to achieve my goals.
Growing up in a start-up business environment was both challenging and rewarding. Working alongside my father, who was literally digging his fortune out of a mine and building a market for our unique humate products, taught me the resilience needed to overcome obstacles. Whether it was helping out underground or filling fertilizer bags by hand, my siblings and I embraced the opportunity to contribute to the family business. We became resourceful and creative, using whatever limited resources we had at our disposal. For instance, our first extraction tank was an old blue bathtub. Being part of a business that relies on hard work and perseverance has ingrained in me the importance of resilience and dedication. While we are fortunate to have a product that sells well, it is the combination of hard work and unwavering determination that has been the driving force behind our success.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
You know, it is pretty rewarding to get up in the morning when your job is to help grow healthy food and make ingredients that improve people’s lives. Each workday is different, and I need a diverse background of skills to accomplish our work. It is challenging because Live Earth manufactures humic and fulvic acid-based products for use in agriculture, animal feeds, cosmetics, dietary supplements, organic gardening, and lawn care. I have to know about each market segment and then plan how to extract that goodness from our mineral deposit. All of our humic and fulvic acid products are derived from our humic shale mine in Emery, Utah. We harness the power of humates to bring vitality to life. Live Earth Products is a family-run business culminating almost 35 years of hard work and innovation. We are the primary choice of organic and conventional buyers.
My father founded Live Earth Products in 1989 when I was just a kid – so I grew up in the company. Selling organic soil amendments in the 1980s was an idea well ahead of its time, which came with challenges. Since my father didn’t have much help back then, he looked to his family for support. So, I’ve been involved with the business since I was very young. Back then, I didn’t imagine that three decades later, our products would be sold by distributors worldwide and that our soil amendments would be used on iconic properties like the Rose Bowl Stadium.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Vision, tenacity, and devotion.
My father’s foresight has taught me to look at things differently. Imagine a better future and fight to get those milestones built. If doing the right thing was easy, we would have quit long ago. For us, it was being tenacious and working hard to get the message out about our product quality. Live Earth has access to a unique mineral deposit that can be used to enrich our soils for healthier plants, used in animal feeds to better the lives of our pets and livestock, added to personal care products, and even consumed as supplements as part of a daily vitamin routine. I think it’s important to consider how we can best use what we have to offer in life. Our humic and fulvic acids bring vitality to life, and with passion, we find new applications for them in various industries each and every day.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We often work in a white-label capacity for various leading brands, and they return to us because they trust the quality of our product. We constantly seek new partnerships and opportunities to get pure, premium fulvic and humic acids into quality product lines.
