We recently connected with Ruthie Harvey and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruthie, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?

To be honest it took time to just go for it confidence can be built, in my case it was a hobby that has turned into a mobile nail spa. Something that if you would have told me I’ll be making a career change in my 30’s I wouldn’t have believed you. Now that I’m on this journey I’m excited to see what the next chapters have in store for me, launching a mobile nail business in the city of Jackson, MI will be the first. Knowing that I can’t fail I can be an example for someone else looking to start a mobile business or just a business in general that is a heavy weight to hold but I’m prepared to do so. So if your reading this hear me clearly go for it, do it, turn your dream or idea into fruition even if your not the first person, it will not stop you from being great at it. You can be that example for someone else looking to start something new & innovative whether it’s your family and friends or someone 1000’s of miles away be that example. Someone will see and they can find inspiration from it trust me I may even be me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Ruthie owner and operator of Unique Nailz by Ruthie L.L.C a mobile nail spa where I’ll be bringing luxury nail services to your home, business or event. My business started off as an hobby of me doing nails on myself that I started getting good at, just 2.5 years ago I made the decision to go back to school to learn the proper way to do nail. The health, safety and integrity of the nails to be more knowledgeable of doing Nailz. Simultaneously I researched, asked family and friends the in’s and out’s of starting a business and the dream was formed. Now it did take some time to get all necessary licenses and insurance to be able to operate my business legally. And if I can add it was more than a little of winging it and trail and error to get what was needed for my business. But in the end I can say it is defiantly worth it, and I excited to announce the launch of Unique Nailz by Ruthie is here. I will be bringing several nail care services to fit any and all needs, from natural Nailz, nail enhancement, men’s nail care and senior nail care with more in depth nail care options coming soon. Starting my range within 60 miles of Jackson,MI and plan on expanding from there. Bringing quality nail care to anyone looking for someone who cares about the integrity of your nails a clam, relaxing, one on one personalize nail care you didn’t know you wanted.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The top three in my opinion that is most impactful in my journey is seeking more knowledge there are still things I don’t know as far as running a mobile nail business that I still learning about so research is key. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or to ask someone who might not be in the field that your business is in, they can still have great impact on you as far as a different view points, skills, training they might have taken to get to their next point. Will power is the next thing I feel is needed there have been a few times I wanted to quit and just do content creation because it was easier to do then start a business. You will go though ruts where you want to give up cause it’s just not working out, you open one door and realize there’s several more to go. If you just stop and look back at all that you have achieved thus far the, road back will take longer than the road to the finish line. Lastly have fun don’t get caught up in the grind, so much that you lose the joy out of what your doing, fire will only go out if you douse it BUT flames flicker all the time. I went to an acrylic/nail art workshop that really sparked my creativity process again I felt like I was doing the same type of nail design over and over. Seeing different designs that are simple to do that comes out amazing was the boots I needed to stay pushing my limits in the nail game. I’ll add one more for good luck believe in your self you don’t have to compete with anyone just be a better you than you were last year.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Being that I operate mobile the options for collaboration and or partner a vase, with me doing nails folks that are also in the beauty industry are ideal. Collaborating with a lash tech for instance where we can do a tang team duo I work on their nails while they get their lashes done, or a beautician while they get their hair done. I also want to work at trade show have a booth set up offering express services while their at the event or festival. And wellness center, out reach places, senior living communities or home health agencies, there I can offer group packages to come out a few times a month for routine nail care.
