We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Lytle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan , thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
Developing effective communication took years of practice. But over time, I realized that it boils down into a simple structure that applies anywhere.
Start at a high level. Explain what it is and why it matters. Then, dive into the details. Too often, people focus on one or the other, but both are essential. Setting the stage with the what and why ensures clarity and keeps your audience engaged.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Build You Marketing is a luxury LinkedIn content agency dedicated to helping founders, executives, and companies build their personal brand.
What excites me most about what we do is the impact of storytelling. A well-crafted LinkedIn presence isn’t just about having a “good-looking” profile as your resume, it’s about building trust, sparking conversations, and opening doors to new opportunities through weekly/bi-weekly posts.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity
Question everything. For example, if a LinkedIn post goes viral, the average person might try to replicate it. But the better question is: Why did it go viral? What specifically made it resonate with their audience? And how can we apply those insights in a fresh way for another post? This type of thinking pushes you beyond the surface level and ensures you never settle for “good enough.”
Consistency
Consistency is a superpower. You won’t always see results immediately, but effort compounds over time. And the moments when you don’t feel like showing up, but still do, are the moments that ultimately push you forward.
Empathy
Being able to understand where someone else is coming from is an underrated skill. It’s not just about listening, it’s about asking the right questions and considering different perspectives before jumping to conclusions.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents taught me to always put people first. It started in my childhood with simple gestures like holding the door open for others, saying “thank you,” and treating everyone with respect.
But over time, I realized it was about more than just good manners. It was about how you show up for others.
Whether it’s being patient in a tough moment or simply taking the time to listen, putting people first is something I try to carry into every part of my life.
