Meet Ryan Moerer

We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Moerer recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ryan, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose wanting to be a voice actor and actor at a young age. My friends and I started on YouTube making parody short films on different popular movie characters which then evolved over the years into making more comedy shorts that involved different character roles and sometimes narration voiceovers. Since then I’ve always had an interest in comedy roles and voicing animated characters.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Currently I live in LA working freelance gigs while constantly learning to improve my acting and voice acting as much as I can. I’ve always been huge on filmmaking and finding different opportunities to use my skills within the industry. I started out video editing and interested in being a director of photography. As I’ve gotten older I’ve shifted my focus on wanting to be on the other side of production and get involved in the performance side of filmmaking. I have a huge passion for voice acting most of all and comedy acting as well. My dream is to be voice acting in AAA video games and animation.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First of all I would say to pursue your passion. There’s been plenty of times I’ve been discouraged or thought I wasn’t good enough which is very normal. I never thought it would be possible for me to move out to LA from Kansas City, MO the time I did and now I look back on it as one of the most important decisions I’ve made. I’m still working on pursuing my passion and I strive to reach my goal everyday. Second of all, surround yourself with likeminded creatives. The great thing about the industry is most people have similar interests as you and want to connect with you to make projects happen. You can try to do it on your own but it’s much more difficult without a team/friends to help you along the way. Lastly, don’t be afraid to be creative. If you have an idea of something that you find funny or interesting, just do it. You won’t reach your goal if you never try.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Truly I’ve felt so lost sometimes creatively. It is really tough to constantly come up with new ideas but what tends to help me reignite my creativity is to share my ideas with my friends and see what they think. For me bouncing ideas around with others or joking around with my friends can allow myself to tell what works and what doesn’t. It’s important to have those people around you to stay motivated and get input.
