Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rylee Jensen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rylee, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I truly believe that rest is crucial, especially when your body signals the need for it. I once came across a profound idea: “Creativity flourishes in its natural flow, so permit it to unfold organically. If a creative block arises, it might just be your body signaling the importance of rest.” Unfortunately, I can’t quite remember who said that, but it really rang true for me! Personally, I’ve experienced that allowing adequate rest significantly boosts my creative sessions and moments.
Meditation holds a special place in my routine; for me, a silent mind has often helped the flow of creativity.
Placing a premium on self-care and relaxation is the key to sustaining a vibrant and harmonized creative energy.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an actress, singer, and writer. My journey in the world of performance began in the 4th grade, stepping onto the stage for the first time in “A Christmas Carol.” Growing up, I was grateful to be a part of various community theaters, performing in various stage productions. While my theatrical journey extended throughout high school, it took an exciting turn in college when I discovered my profound love for film, prompting a shift in my career path.
As we eagerly submit “Where Flowers Won’t Grow” to film festivals, the joy of acceptance into the Utah Film Festival and The Zions Indie Film Festival is exhilarating. To those who continually support and believe in me and my projects, your encouragement means the world to me. Thank you!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say a few qualities that have been impactful in my journey have been:
1. Surrounding myself with people who support and uplift me and continuing to surround myself with those people.
2. Recognizing that we are never done growing, and knowing that I will always be growing not only as an actor but as a person has been vital in getting me grounded and out of my head.
3. Letting go of perfectionism. This goes along with my previous one a bit, but this has been HUGE for me. I still struggle with this constantly. Feeling the need for every audition to be perfect, every time on set, etc..but I found that perfectionism was holding me back. It was making me stiff, not willing to take risks. Once I realized that, things got more simple.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I love the book The Magic. This is The Secret’s sister book. The Magic changed my life! It helped me recognize gratitude in everything. Gratitude makes us magnetic. It keeps us present. This book taught me everything I needed to know about gratitude and manifestation. I still use the gratitude journal technique from this book every morning, truly changed my life.
