We recently connected with Rylee Nelson and have shared our conversation below.
Rylee, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Growing up, I was constantly labeled as “too much.” Too loud, too energetic, too talkative. Teachers moved my desk to the front of the room, friends grew distant, and I often felt like I was being asked to shrink myself to fit into a world of neatly defined expectations. For a long time, I believed that being “too much” was something to hide.
The turning point came when I was diagnosed with ADHD at 21. For the first time I felt understood and was able to start embracing what made me different. I realized that my energy, creativity, and passion weren’t flaws—they were strengths. In my real estate career, I’ve channeled that same energy into creating a business that thrives on connection, problem-solving, and out-of-the-box thinking. I now specialize in helping people find homes that are as unique as they are—homes that might be considered “too different” or “too quirky” for the average buyer. By owning what makes me stand out, I’ve built a career that celebrates individuality—both mine and my clients’.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a real estate agent specializing in homes with character—those rare finds that don’t fit the cookie-cutter mold. My approach is rooted in empathy and understanding, especially for clients who might feel overwhelmed by the home-buying or selling process due to ADHD or other challenges.
What excites me most is the opportunity to match someone with a home that reflects their unique story. Helping clients sell homes with unconventional layouts or quirky features they thought no one would appreciate—and finding buyers who fall in love with those very details. I also offer resources and personalized support, knowing that organization and clarity can be game-changers in this process.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand my brand by offering more digital tools and resources tailored specifically for neurodivergent clients. My goal is to make the real estate journey as seamless, supportive, and empowering as possible.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have been game-changers in my journey are:
-Resilience: Being told I was “too much” could have crushed my spirit, but instead, I turned it into fuel. My advice: Reframe criticism as a sign that you’re doing something unique. Lean into it.
-Creativity: Thinking outside the box has been essential—not just in marketing homes but also in navigating the unexpected challenges that arise in real estate. My advice: Don’t be afraid to try unconventional solutions. The wildest ideas can become your strongest assets.
-Empathy: Understanding my own challenges has helped me be more compassionate toward others. My advice: Listen more than you speak. People often need to be heard before they’re ready to trust.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who sees a home as more than four walls—it’s a place where they can build their dreams, express their creativity, and feel truly themselves. I work best with clients who value individuality, have a creative spirit, or are seeking something outside the ordinary.
I especially love working with individuals who might feel overwhelmed by the process due to ADHD or similar challenges. I understand how daunting it can be, which is why I offer personalized tools and thoughtful guidance every step of the way. If you’re someone who appreciates authenticity, values unique spaces, and wants a real estate experience that’s as tailored and thoughtful as the home you envision, we’ll be a perfect match.
