Meet S N Montoya

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to S N Montoya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

S N , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

This is a fun one!

A lot of my creativity comes from the things around me, so I do my best to stay busy and keep active to continue to draw in new ideas.

Some of these things include: reading (of course!!), playing video games, going to zoos/aquariums, talking to my husband (he has a lot of cool ideas), watching movies, and swimming in mermaid tails (yes, mermaid tails).

Doing a variety of different things helps me come up with new ideas and get inspiration for new projects. When I swim in my mermaid tails, for example, it puts me into a whole new perspective and state of relaxation. Plus, cosplaying as a fantasy creature tends to take my mind away from everything else.

When I slack off on doing things I enjoy, I find that my creativity flatlines. So, I do my best to try and do something that will get my creativity going again.

It’s a struggle, but I think I’m managing it well so far!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a published author who mainly writes YA Fantasy but I’m looking to expand my reach here soon.

Currently, I have two novels published that are in a series. The third and final book in the series is written and now being edited. I expect it to be published towards the end of this year.

This series, titled “Angel”, is special to me because it’s something I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl. I remember when I was around 10, day dreaming up a black panther running next to my parents car as we drove. Now, here I am, 15 years later with that story coming to a close.

My husband is the one who helped me publish it. He was one of the first people I let read my silly little story, and he loved it. His excitement is what pushed me to finally put the first book together. (Thanks Babe!)

Through him, I also found Christ. And through the church, I met my now publisher and editor! Small world.

I am looking forward to continuing to write and grow my reach as an author so that I can share my love for fantasy (and Christ!) with others.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the most important qualities that were impactful to my journey are:

My creativity

My passion

My drive

Being where I am now, I couldn’t have done it without them. I would say that you can’t improve one of these without improving the other.

If you want to have a bigger drive/work ethic, you need to be a passionate about what you do and what your goals are. It’s difficult to work towards something if you don’t like doing it. You should LOVE it. Only then can you truly work hard and have a good drive for what you want to do. (I wanted to become a writer because I love to read!)

As for creativity, it’s more of a challenge. This comes from you. The best thing, at least in my case, is forcing myself to do things. (Walks, swimming, reading, whatever). If you’re out and about. it may be easier for creativity to strike than if you’re just sitting around doing nothing.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Definitely my husband, Eric.

He has been my driving force in this journey so far, especially since he is the one that pushed me to finish the first novel after years of procrastination.

He continues to support me and give me new ideas everyday, as his mind is even more creative than mine.
