Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sabine Posniak. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sabine, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Actually, I don’t think I have overcome imposter syndrome. But I have made it a habit of ignoring that feeling of inadequacy and soldier on. I have learnt to do it anyways and focus my energy on what I want to accomplish.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have lived with my husband and our rescue dog Kelly in Frankfurt/Germany for 20 years.
When I was younger it was always my dream to come to the USA and as a student I got a scholarschip to study at UCSD.
It was back then, that I developed an eating disorder and was lucky enough to start therapy in San Diego.
Coming from a working class background, being the first female in my family to get a university degree, I just had myself to rely on and it took me quite a while to understand what I wanted to do professionally.
Life in CA instilled in my an ability of taking risks, for starting all over, so I quit my nine-to-five job in finance and got my degree as a Yoga instructor which led to me starting to teach English for adults which is the job of my dreams by the way 🙂
Also, I successfully founded my first blog back in 2007 aa a platform for women over 40 in Germany. It has been extremely important to me to empower women, to inspire them to make more daring fashion choices and not be intimidated by restrictions our society has set up for older women.
I wanted women of my age to be more visible. It is something I still feel very strongly about, because we are constantly literally “bombared” with beauty standards that undermine our self-esteem.
My blog oceanblue-style.com and my Instagram account oceanbluestyle_at_manderley are a place for women to find fashion tips who want to stand out without dressing over the top.
It’s a source for mature women wanting to live there best life with ease and reflection.
My style is a mix of European elegance and SoCal ease.
Oceanblue Style supports animal welfare organisations abroad, especially in Europe but also PETA against dog meat campaigns and everything that protects the Oceans.
I very much enjoy visiting Paris and New York Fashion week and have just become a content creator for Germany’s largest public people magazine which I am really excited about.
My mother and grandmother inspired my love for fashion,
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
* willingness to improve and learn. When starting my job as a ESL teacher, I had no idea how to manage a group full of people. So, at the beginning, I would get home, go through the lessons and analyze what happened. Next, I got tons of books on how to handle class room situations and that is how I grew as a person and teacher.
* learn from other people. It does not help to get jealous of other people’s success. Nowadays, I ask myself what it is about that person, that I admire? Am I willing to pay the price for it? Some creators travel a lot, attend lots of events to network. So do I. But I made the conscious decision to grow slower, because I prefer spending time with my rescue dog and my family. And it’s about slow and sustainable fashion choices.
‘ humor and joy. With my mental health struggles, coming from a broken home, I think, I have learnt to appreciate life and know what is really important to me. So, when the going gets tough, remember to be grateful what you have already accomplished. My adivce would be to practice gratefulness while adjusting your goals, if necessary.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
* podcast. I would love to be a guest on a podcast about female resilience, supporting females over 50, overcoming obstacles.
I would also be open to collaborations with sustainable fashion /vegan fashion companies. Anything beauty related.
