We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sabrina Pare a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sabrina, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose in creating content around sustainable living when I began learning about sustainability and the climate crisis. The more I understood, the more I felt compelled to share this knowledge and educate others on how they could make small, everyday changes to help. I didn’t come from a background in sustainability or have formal education in the field, but I wanted to show people that you don’t need to be an expert to care, learn, and speak up. It’s about progress, not perfection, and inspiring others to take action along the way.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a Detroit-based environmentalist and content creator focused on low-waste living, gardening, reducing food waste, and plant-based eating. My goal is to inspire, motivate, and empower others to live a more sustainable life and take climate action. I create value aligned content. I collaborate with brands I align with to create high-quality content that educates my audience on how they can live a more sustainable life and take climate action. I have collaborated with 100+ brands and organizations to share stories that have a positive impact on people and the planet. I host speaking engagements and workshops. I am available for in-person and virtual speaking engagements as well as any interviews about my work or videos. I have experience hosting workshops and training on environmental storytelling, sustainable practices, and social media strategy. I also do community organizing and event planning. I specialize in creating initiatives that foster connectivity and inclusivity, strengthening the bonds within communities. In the past, I have hosted trash-clean ups, eco happy hour + concerts, community activations, and more! On November 16th, I am co-hosting a clothing swap at The Corner Studio in Grosse Pointe Woods from 1:00-3:00 PM. Lastly, I offer consulting services. Want help with how to become an influencer, but don’t have agency representation or the budget for a full-time manager or coach? I’m here to help! I can also help with general sustainability questions and help you live a more sustainable life. Starting or have a small business, but want to make it more sustainable? I have expertise in both sustainability and social media consulting and have experience working with small startups as well as Fortune 500 companies.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities or skills that were most impactful in my journey were: 1) learning how to create engaging videos with a great hook to keep viewers watching, 2) being able to explain complicated issues in simple terms that anyone can understand, and 3) leaning on others for support and finding people in the community who care about the same things I do. It’s easy to experience burnout when working in both the climate and creator space, so building a support system has been essential.
For those just starting out, especially in content creation, I recommend finding videos you enjoy and analyzing what makes them resonate with you. Think about how you can make something similar but with your own twist. Also, practice is everything—no one gets it perfect the first time, and being consistent is what will help you grow and improve over time.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Other content creators have been the most helpful in overcoming challenges and building the skills I needed to succeed. I’m grateful to have a strong network of friends within the space who I can lean on for advice, vent when things get overwhelming, and share support. It makes a huge difference to connect with people who understand both the creative and emotional sides of this work—whether it’s brainstorming new ideas or just being there when burnout creeps in.
