We were lucky to catch up with Sabrina Robbins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sabrina, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I overcame and imposter syndrome about a year ago, when I decided that I no longer will allow fear to dictate my life. As someone who has a degree in psychology and my MA in counseling, this was vital to my growth and my personal life, spiritual life, and a part of my healing process. As someone who overthinks a lot, the impostor syndrome began to take over my life due to me being fearful of change. However, all of that changed last year once I decided that I wanted to get back into modeling after I graduated with my Masters in counseling. I decided that I wasn’t going to allow fear to keep me from what I’m destined to be. If someone who considers themselves a jack of all trades you would think imposter syndrome wouldn’t affect my life, but it has. I’m a mother to a beautiful teenage daughter, I just finished up my masters program and preparing to sit for the National Counselor’s Examination , I have my own baking business that I’ve had for five years now, and my old love of modeling has come back into my life. As an Overthinker, I doubt my skills all the time because I feel like if I’m being overlooked in the areas of my life that I’m not doing well in life, but that has all changed when I decided to do what I love to for Sabrina. To take all of that fear, doubt and worry and throw it out of my mind. Meditation has also been a big part of why I have overcame my impostor syndrome. Letting go of all things that no longer matter to me by sitting with myself, and just being grateful for all of the opportunities and skills that I possess has helped me overcome the impostor syndrome, which was basically my shadow at one point in my life . Fear of change is scary but also staying in the same spaces can also be scary. So all of these experiences has helped me overcome something I thought was impossible to overcome.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Sabrina Robbins , and I am a mom, a business owner and a model. I’m a mom to a beautiful 12-year-old daughter, who has been the light of my world ever since. Even though my daughter has brought so much joy to me it started off very difficult for me as I was a teen mom. Trying to navigate life as an 18-year-old with a newborn baby was very difficult, but I’ve overcame so much adversity since then. I managed to graduate high school on time, then I went on to get my college degree in Clinical Psychology , I took a little break and then in 2020 I decided to pursue my Masters in counseling. Obtaining education has always been the forefront of my mind, but it was very difficult to do as a teen mom who has gone through domestic violence, all while trying to pursue my education. However, despite the circumstances , I overcame it and now have two degrees and one licensure, and actively working on obtaining my second licensure as a licensed therapist. As I was obtaining my masters degree, I decided to start my business named GoddessCupcakes LLC . This was a dream of mine since I was a teenager because I love to watch baking shows from Sugar Rush, to Cake Boss and other baking shows . This was a great time for me to start a business because it was right at the beginning of the pandemic. I was bored and I wanted to take that boredom and put it into a passion of mine . So I took my talent and began baking, and I haven’t stopped ever since. It’s been five years now, and my baking business has been in one worldwide calendar, I have been a part of a baking competition, and I’ve attended a variety of pop-up shops, and has catered a vast amount of other events. My business continues to grow each year, which I’m very grateful and thankful for. I don’t only bake for the love of it , but I decided to use my education to expand into my baking business. I want to create a field called baking therapy where I would incorporate therapy sessions while teaching my future clients baking lessons. I find it very therapeutic when I’m baking and that’s when I like to express myself the most. This field is very rare and I would love to expand it one day as my short-term goals that I’m actively working on now. I believe anyone can benefit from baking therapy because who doesn’t like desserts . LOL. My short term and long-term goals are to own my own bakery and to have a therapy private practice alongside of my bakery so that I will be able to have my baking therapy sessions for everyone. My second passion is modeling, which I started back in 2016 but due to unforeseen circumstances in life was life at the time I didn’t pursue modeling anymore because I had given up and lost hope. Dealing with abuse and trying to actively obtain my education was very hard as a single parent. Heck even as a young parent at the time. But my heart was always in fashion and I wanted to model that’s all I care about at that time. But now that I’ve gotten older am a firm believer in everything happens at the correct time. So at that point in time, it wasn’t my time to fully focus on modeling. I had other things to worry about. However, in 2024, my love for fashion and modeling came back, and I have stuck to it ever since. I began to take modeling and acting courses with coaches from all over the country, and I was determined that this was my time. Push forward to 2025. I received the opportunity to attend New York Fashion Week as a guest at one of the fashion shows. I was super ecstatic about this opportunity, but my life really changed when I was asked to be a model during New York Fashion Week. The day that I found that out I cried for most of the day because I couldn’t believe that the opportunity like this will come to me. At that moment that I received the good news in April 2025 I knew that everything was working out in my favor. God and my ancestors and my spiritual team were really working for me and with me to help me obtain my dream goals. I just recently came back from New York Fashion Week in New York a few weeks ago, and it was the best experience I’ve ever experienced in my life. For walking for a major clothing brand as this will be my first time walking in any runway was life-changing for me. For the last couple of years, I’ve done nonstop photoshoots to try to gain more exposure, but to get the opportunity to do a runway show, definitely brought exposure that will forever change my life in a positive way. Now I have the opportunity to walk with confidence as a up-and-coming model and I’ve had plenty of other opportunities since then. What I’m currently working on as a model, I will be attending Nashville Fashion Week, and will be walking as a model in their Fashion Week, which I’m really excited about. As for my baking business, I continually take orders from my hometown customers, which is in Chicago. I am actively working on taking my National Counselor’s Examination this winter and passing so I can start working on opening up my own bakery alongside with my counseling firm. With all of this going on, I’m still a mother to my beautiful 12-year-old daughter who has grown with me since I was 18 years old. Now that I’m 30 years old, my life has changed in such a major and drastic way, but I wouldn’t have it any way other than this. I’m ever grateful for all of the opportunities life lessons that I have experienced and I cannot wait to see what else life has a store for me..

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
And I look back over my life as a 30 year-old African-American woman who is obtaining higher education, being a mom and a business owner all while trying to actively and continuously pursue her passions, I believe that there are some areas of knowledge that has helped me grow and heal of these last few years. The first one is learning to embrace change. That has been the hardest one for me at times , because i’m so used to being in control of my life when I can’t see what the outcome is going to be of my next goal, there will always be a change in there somewhere which would make life pretty. Once I learned how to stop fighting that life is ever changing and just embrace change everything started to work out in my favor. The second one is , learning to take breaks when necessary. As women we always are on the go, especially if we’re mothers, so learning to rest is very vital and key in life. Because if you don’t take rest on your own, your body will do it for you and I’ve had to learn the hard way a few times. So I’m very adamant about getting the proper rest that I need so that I can be able to function properly. I’m not just talking about physical rest I’m talking about mental and spiritual rest as well. I’m all about Holistic healing so the entire body, including the mind is important for us to be able to function in our everyday lives so rest is very important. Finally , being able to embrace your failures. I used to think that feeling it something made me a failure overall but failures are part of life. Not every day is peachy , and you will have to overcome some obstacles and you will have some failures. Once I learned how to embrace the failures that is a part of being a human, my mindset changed.. no I didn’t get the perfect cupcake on the first try, I had to experiment multiple times to see what ingredients would and would not work in order to achieve my perfect cupcake. Yes I will be rejected from certain modeling agencies or opportunities as a model, which is a part of this industry.. The first time I took my national council’s exam examination last year in December 2024 I did not pass and I only missed by one point. I thought I was a failure, but I was actually excited that I did better than I thought I would and I just embrace that I could take the test again, knowing the knowledge that I have now.X once I learn how to embrace that I will be told no, rejected and have some failures , my life became easier, and I wasn’t so hard on myself because failures are a part of life.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Believe it or not, my mom and daughter has been my biggest supporter and helping me overcome challenges in my life. My mom is always praying for me and when I was younger, I didn’t understand why she would pray so much. I used to think it was so annoying but now that I’m an adult I see why because prayer does change. It helps manifest what you want in life and to believe to trust that everything is working out for your own good. My daughter is the same way in my household. Our spiritual journeys are all different, but we embrace that we need to have faith in order to keep our minds at ease that we were not put on this curve to suffer, but to live through experiences and into experience life itself. My mom and daughter has always been there for me since day one. They always encouraged me to be a better person which I’m forever grateful for. As I am on my own spiritual journey, I I’m learning to take things with a grain of salt and what doesn’t apply let it fly . I’m also learning that knowledge is obtained through experience so the more that I experienced life the more knowledge I will obtain.
