Meet Sabrina Scott

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sabrina Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sabrina below.

Sabrina , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I inherited my work ethic from my grandparents. My family is from India, specifically Sindh, once a state in India.

August of 1947 is when India gained it’s independence from Britain but it is also known as the time of Partition. It was when British forces left India and more than 14 million Indians were displaced, including my maternal and paternal grandparents and their children, one being my father who at the time was four months old.

The Partition was the creation of two independent countries: India and Pakistan. Some Indian states were divided in two. Sindh, however, was not partitioned and became part of Pakistan. Historians cite several reasons for this decision, one being that the population of non-Muslims was not enough to merit a partition based on religious lines.

Mahatma Gandhi peaceful protested for India’s independence. History books, however, do not share the bloodshed and mass religious migration from India that occurred during this time. Millions of Hindu Sindhis were forced to leave their homes overnight, empty handed. Some moved to other Indian regions while others moved around the world – to western countries, British colonies, Africa, Spain, etc. My paternal grandparents moved to Pune, India (state of Maharashtra) and then to the Canary Islands, Spain. In anticipation of the Partition, my maternal grandparents moved to Palembang, Indonesia prior to August of 1947.

Sindhis had no choice but to literally build new communities, new homes and new professions. Their displacement led them to becoming savvy merchants and business owners as well as professional doctors, engineers, and scientists.

Today, Sindhis are known for their business acumen and strong work ethic. (They are also stereotyped as frugal and thrifty. We can infer why that is.) They were forced to moved forward but did so with perseverance. Their determined work ethic continued and has been passed down from generation to generation.

My grandparents took an unfortunate, life changing event and turned it into one of the greatest virtues and habits passed down to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
After wearing several professional hats, including attorney and entrepreneur, I combined my skills to launch The 5 Spheres of Fit, a holistic lifestyle strategy, alongside my husband, Noel.

The 5 Spheres of Fit provides resources and information for optimal fitness and lifestyle wellness for individuals of all ages. We utilize the most relevant data and research to assist users in addressing their lives in all the spheres.

The 5 Spheres in life are the physical, mental, social, financial, and educational.

There are countless approaches to managing life, many focusing on a single sphere, some that may address two or three; however, too often, the importance of balance and the interplay in all five is overlooked. You can likely think of people who are objectively successful in one or two spheres, yet lacking in others. What if we can cure that by providing perspective on the value of all spheres to one’s overall success in life? This paradigm shift provides a more proactive approach to achieving fitness in all spheres of life and is likely to result in a profoundly more successful individual.

Applying the 5 Spheres lifestyle strategy in my own life has brought a balance to help me succeed in my day to day life. My ability to find connections between my spheres and get to the root of my challenges has brought more happiness and stability to me as a woman, entrepreneur, wife, daughter, friend and most importantly, a mother.

As a mother, I am teaching my daughter how to adopt a lifestyle strategy at a young age. She inspired me to write a children’s book, “My 5 Spheres: A book about your happiness, balance, and fitness for life.” This wellness book teaches kids what it means to be fit in all 5 Spheres.

In addition to the book, we developed The 5 Spheres mobile application which allows users to track challenges and goals in each sphere, set deadlines, and receive resources and reminders. The app is free to use and is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Finally, we launched a podcast, The 5 Spheres of Fit, and will be publishing a journal concentrating on the physical, mental, financial, social, and educational parts of our lives.

The most exciting part of this venture is sharing the strategy and hearing from users how much better they feel being able to organize, evaluate, and problem solve using the 5 Spheres of Fit.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Communication: “When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.” — Ernest Hemingway

Communication is key in every facet of your life. Professionally and personally, communication can be one of the most important skills in growing and maintaining relationships. Professional relationships are a valuable resource and can stem from personal relationships.

Practice communicating precisely and actively listen. It will go the distance.

2. Learning Never Stops:
This world is constantly changing so it’s essential to become a lifelong learner. There are always new skills and techniques to learn and knowledge to gain.

The most successful people in the world know that they don’t know everything. You need to continuously learn to be successful.

Our educational sphere has a direct impact on our physical, mental, financial, and social spheres so it is critical to keep this sphere healthy and in balance.

3. Confidence
Confidence isn’t just believing in yourself. It can result in people believing in you. Confidence makes you stronger and happier.

When you aren’t feeling confident, adopt the expression “fake it till you make it”. Imitate the confidence or skills you need to succeed in the hopes that it will inspire real confidence.

Surround yourself with people that believe in you and support you – people that are confident in you. As a result, you will be building a healthier social sphere.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
My mental sphere is consistently the most challenging sphere I face. I have learned that there is a deep interplay between my physical and social spheres and my mental health.

As a child, unbeknown to myself or my parents, I suffered from anxiety frequently. Doctor after doctor, test after test, the constant stomachaches I suffered from went undiagnosed. It wasn’t until college that I learned I had been dealing with anxiety all along. My parents were never introduced to the terms “anxiety” and “mental health”, so how could they correlate my physical discomfort to my mental state?

Today, I have tools and therapy to help me manage my mental health. I feel better mentally when I exercise and eat well. When my diet is poor, even for a few days, I immediately feel the negative mental affects. I recently have started to meditate with my daughter, even for a few minutes, to start making it a habit for us both.

It’s tough to be the best version of myself when my mental sphere is out of balance and knowing that it is something I will always have to physiologically deal with, I work on it daily so that I can be the best Sabrina for myself and for my loved ones around me.
