We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sabrina Viramontes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sabrina below.
Hi Sabrina , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
Taking risks has always been a bit uncomfortable for me, as I have a strong resistance to uncertainty and the unknown. My brain likes to think about all the possible outcomes and setbacks I might encounter and then convince myself I’m not ready to do whatever project I’m thinking about. I am generally not a huge risk taker, thanks to my anxiety and perfectionism, although, these past few years, I have been learning to increase my capacity for taking risks. I have learned to become actively aware when my anxiety and perfectionism might be getting in the way of my growth or progression and to take action, despite any uncomfortable thoughts or feelings I might be experiencing. I also take a lot of deep breaths and actively release tension in certain parts of my body.
The biggest risk I’ve embarked on yet, has been investing in myself professionally and establishing my psychotherapy practice. I scrambled to get my practice all set-up in under three months and had no idea who to go to for answers to the many questions I had. It was a chaotic time to say the least. Being an entrepreneur and small business owner is not for the faint of heart but it’s totally doable! It has been an overwhelming, intimidating yet rewarding journey so far. I definitely could not have taken this risk without the support of my husband, family, friends and my emotional support dog-daughter Sadie!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
A little over two years ago, I took the leap to launch Conscious Healing Therapy, a solo psychotherapy practice that focuses on helping women and people of color, rediscover themselves, break trauma cycles, create healthy relationships and create the lives they deserve to live. I truly enjoy working with Latina women, high-achievers and therapy “first-timers” as I find these clients easy to relate to and are open to learning and doing the work.
I take my role as a therapist (guide) very seriously and approach all clients with an open heart, curious mind and lots of care. The work my clients and I do together is so special; it’s a relationship like no other, for which I have so much gratitude. I often think to myself, how lucky I am to be able to do this work and get to witness transformation. We celebrate small and big wins, navigate mini setbacks, share laughter and see the light-bulb moments together. I am excited to continue my therapeutic work and expand my knowledge and training throughout this coming year. I hope to be able to add new offerings to my practice and approaches to helping my clients heal. I’m always brainstorming about something!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, the qualities that stand out the most are passion/dedication, believing in my impact and curiosity.
For me, it’s always been about connecting with people going through life’s difficulties and affirming they are not alone. I dedicate myself to providing my clients, as well as other people in my life, a soft place to land, a place to be themselves and a space to be emotionally held. I genuinely believe the more spaces there are for people to be themselves, without fear of judgment plus genuine connection, we can create a safer, healthier, and more joyful world. This passion fuels my dedication to show up for my clients and witness their growth. My advice? Find what truly drives you. Passion isn’t just about excitement; it’s about commitment, even on tough days and taking the time to care for yourself when the passion exhausts you. Schedule your time and have an accountability partner to keep you on track.
Believing that my work makes a difference has also been monumental on my journey. Without this belief, I’d have no purpose in my work. I hold onto the idea that my impact on clients will be a positive one — healthy, challenging, and grounding. For some of my clients, our therapeutic relationship might be the only healthy, safe, and secure one they have ever experienced…talk about impactful. For those starting out, I suggest asking yourself what type of impact do you want to have on others or the world. I know it may seem daunting, but it may also help keep you grounded. Keep an open mind and heart with your process, as well as with others you encounter on your journey. Trust in your ability to make a positive impact, even if the steps are small.
Additionally, my sense of curiosity and desire to learn has continually pushed me to be the best therapist I can be. Whether it’s through formal education, training, or learning from clients and colleagues, being a lifelong learner has been crucial. Lifelong learning isn’t just about traditional education—it’s about staying curious and open to new experiences. My tip here is to be okay with taking things slow. If you’re a perfectionist like me, remember: it’s okay to not have all the answers immediately. Try not to get stuck in your head or fall into analysis paralysis. Just start the damn thing!

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There have been so many people throughout my life who have shaped me and helped me along the way. As a collective, my family, friends and colleagues have all assisted me at different times and in different ways, which I am so grateful for! Regarding my practice specifically, I have to give a special heartfelt shout out to my dear friend and colleague, Brooke Clavesilla. We embarked on this journey together and it has been so nice to have her as my accountability partner, soundboard and peer consultant. Brooke always reminds me of my strengths, affirms me, expands my thought processes and is always there to support me. She also shares the same passion, dedication and curiosity regarding our therapeutic work. I hope you’re able to find you a Brooke to help you along your journey!!
