Meet Salis Charming

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Salis Charming. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Salis below.

Salis, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My confidence didn’t come from feeling perfect—it came from giving myself permission to be seen. I developed my self-esteem by reconnecting with my body and learning to honor it instead of criticizing it. Dance, especially pole and floorwork, taught me that strength, sensuality, and softness can coexist. Every time I showed up, tried something new, or pushed past fear, I proved to myself that I was capable and worthy.

Building a community of women was just as important. When you surround yourself with women who uplift you, celebrate your wins, and remind you of your power on days you forget, confidence becomes contagious. Through movement, sisterhood, and self-expression, I learned that confidence isn’t about comparison—it’s about ownership. Owning who you are, exactly as you are.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

At Girl Next Door Fitness, we’re all about empowering women to step into their confidence and celebrate their bodies through movement. I teach pole, chair dance, floorwork, and twerking, both in-person and online, helping students of all levels explore strength, sensuality, and self-expression. What makes it most exciting is seeing women transform—not just physically, but emotionally—learning to trust themselves, embrace their curves, and own their presence.

Salis Charming the owner of Girl Next Door fitness is a hearing-impaired pole dancer and coach with over nine years of experience, my journey has been shaped by resilience and creativity. I’ve danced through pregnancy, used pole to reconnect with my body afterward, and continue to advocate for inclusion in the pole community. This led me to curate the ParaPole Showcase at the International Pole Convention and perform in international virtual events supporting important causes like Pole Dance for Ukraine and Pole Dance 4 Cali.

Beyond fitness, we’ve built a sorority within Girl Next Door Fitness—a community where women uplift one another, celebrate wins, and grow together. For me, the most special part of what I do is creating a space where women feel safe to explore themselves, feel powerful, and walk away with confidence that extends far beyond the studio.

We’re excited for new events and expansions this year, including more online classes, private coaching, and workshops focused on artistry and empowerment. Our goal is to make this kind of transformative movement accessible to everyone, no matter where they are in their journey.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Resilience allowed me to push through challenges—whether adapting to being hearing-impaired in a performance space, dancing through pregnancy, or returning to pole after life changes. Creativity helped me explore movement in unique ways, blending strength, artistry, and expression. And community—the women I teach and learn from—has been crucial for encouragement, inspiration, and growth.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is simple: embrace challenges as opportunities, experiment boldly, and seek out supportive communities. Take small steps to build resilience, whether through consistent practice or stepping outside your comfort zone. Cultivate creativity by trying new styles, experimenting with choreography, or exploring different forms of movement. And never underestimate the power of surrounding yourself with people who uplift and challenge you—it’s often the community that helps you believe in yourself the most.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I love collaborating with fellow creatives, fitness professionals, movement artists, and advocates for women’s empowerment. I’m particularly interested in partnerships that celebrate diversity, adaptive athletics, and body positivity—whether that’s co-hosting workshops, creating virtual showcases, or working on events that uplift women and the pole community.

If anyone is interested in collaborating, the best way to connect is through our website, social media channels, or by reaching out directly via email. I’m always excited to explore projects that inspire, empower, and create space for women to shine.
