We recently connected with Sally Bisbee and have shared our conversation below.
Sally, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
As a mom, a few years back, I was 100% burnt out. I was a mom of 3, running multiple businesses and found myself waking up every day feeling like I was drowning. 1 day I woke up and decided I didn’t want to feel that way anymore. I decided it was time to make some changes. I started what I called “Operation Happy”, which was my way of finding how to get more happy in my life. I started on a self-discovery journey, which led me into the coaching I now do. I worked on ways to simplify my life and get rid of any unnecessary overwhelm. I got rid of any unnecessary physical and mental clutter in my life. I created routines and habits to get my housework on autopilot so it now only takes minutes a day to keep up on my housework. And I found ways to prioritize myself and my happiness. Through all this, I ditched the constant overwhelm and feeling of being burnt out as a mom. I am now a happy, present mom, who rarely feels overwhelmed and I now teach other moms how to do the same thing. This journey is exactly what led me into wanting to coach overwhelmed moms. I now get to walk alongside other moms in their mom journey and help them find ways to get rid of the unnecessary overwhelm. I help them create routines and habits that work for them and that will actually last. And I remind them the importance of making themselves a priority. It isn’t just about taking care of yourself. It is also about setting that example for our kids, so that when they are adults, they know the importance of taking care of their own needs too because they saw us do it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi, My name is Sally and I am The Mom Coach. I help moms take the stress out of mom life. I walk alongside moms who are dealing with constant overwhelm, that feeling like they are drowning and can never catch up and help them simplify their lives. I offer 1:1 coaching to overwhelmed moms and walk them through my signature framework called The Simplify Method. In this 3 step process, I help moms simplify their lives, getting rid of any unnecessary clutter, both physical and mental. I help them create routines and habits to get their house running on autopilot, so it takes only minutes a day to stay on top of housework. And I show moms how to prioritize themselves and their needs without guilt, because we all know you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take my client “P” for example. She came to me as a busy working mom, working 60+ hours a week, constantly stressed, never having time for herself. Within 30 days of working together, she got back to a 40 hour work week. She learned how to set better boundaries around her time, her work schedule, her commitments and she made herself a priority. She now happily takes a walk every day during her lunch break (one she wasn’t even taking before), because she knows she will show up as a better mom when she takes care of herself first. Every aspect of her life is flourishing. Her marriage has improved, her stress has decreased, she has time on the weekends to do the things she enjoys, and she is a present, fulfilled mom, which is exactly what she wanted to be. One of the things that helped her, was my “10 Minute Clean Routine Checklist”. This easy checklist shows the things I do every morning and every night to stay on top of housework, so that keeping up on my house only takes 20 minutes a day. It truly takes the stress out of wondering what you should be doing each day to stay on top of things. You can find the link for it in my bio on both Instagram and Facebook, along with some other helpful resources.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The biggest thing that has impacted me on my journey was to simplify every aspect of my life. I learned to set better boundaries around my time and energy(who I spent it with and what I spend it on), to get rid of any unnecessary stress, so that when stress does pop up, I am able to just deal with that stress and not the other 20 things that are also causing stress, and to prioritize my own needs because I know I show up as a way better mom when my own needs are being met as well. My best advice for moms looking to ditch the constant overwhelm is to start small. Start by creating small, consistent habits to make your life run smoother. And also to find someone who will walk alongside you in your journey, whether that be another mom or a coach.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I start to feel overwhelmed, I stop and take a moment to think about where that overwhelm is coming from. A lot of times, when we can identify the source of the overwhelm and realize where it is coming from, it is often easier to get rid of that overwhelm. Also accepting that overwhelm will always be a part of life. No matter how much I do, or the changes I make, overwhelm will still pop up. It’s how we handle it and choose to look at it, that makes all the difference. And by getting rid of all the unnecessary overwhelm in our life, it better equips us to handle the overwhelm when it does pop up. And I want to leave you with this….you are an amazing mom! You are doing your best and you mean the world to those kids. Just remember that your needs do matter! And you are worth it! Ditch the overwhelm, make yourself a priority and be the present, amazing mom you’ve always wanted to be.
