There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Emotional Intelligence- active listening, being able to understand others’ motivations, and deploying empathy help me know what my audience needs to hear/what their challenges are
Fearlessness- being unafraid to try things, challenge the status quo, and put myself out there
Authenticity- being unapologetically myself enabled others to connect with me in a genuine way and helped me find my people. At first, I wasn’t sure about coming out to my audience, but now that I’m loudly out, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is a huge part of who I am, and I’m so glad to share that with my online community too.

Fearlessness comes with time. I still have a ways to go. Challenge yourself to try new things that are outside your comfort zone. Post something you wouldn’t normally post when it feels too vulnerable. Your authenticity is your superpower. Being yourself will attract your ideal client/audience. Don’t be afraid to repel people who don’t align with your values.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

In the past year, I’ve worked to overcome the notion that everything needs to be perfect before being seen by an audience. There’s value in being vulnerable and sharing a first draft. The pursuit of perfection delays progress. In the past year, I’ve aimed to share things before they are “perfect.” This has enabled me to grow creatively. Whether it’s an Instagram post or a business idea- I strive to execute and put things out there without going through rounds and rounds of edits/stressing about if it’s “perfect.”
