Meet Sam Kim

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sam Kim a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

The first step in overcoming my imposter syndrome was realizing and understanding that it was a false belief that I am not capable. Whether it’s speaking up on my own opinions, taking up space, feeling like I am a worthy individual with valuable input, I’ve gradually shed this disbelief in myself by applying myself everyday no matter how small the effort. Creating content and making music everyday has helped me to shift the focus on what other people might be thinking about me to strengthening my own self belief. We doubt ourselves a lot in our life time and in the future there may be more times of doubt, but I’ve learned that if I allow myself to push through and have my actions overpower the doubt, the doubt over times becomes smaller and smaller.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a online content creator and use platforms such as Tiktok Instagram and YouTube (as Samathan) to share my journey to creative freedom through poetic discipline. Combining health and mental wellbeing while showcasing my interests in making music and sharing my opinions on various topics I am passionate about, I make space for my own creative expression holistically and hope to inspire others to do the same.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three most important qualities that have proven to be impactful are determination, faith, and patience. You need to have a fire burning underneath you if you want to pursue something successfully long term. If the passion was lacking for me, I would have quit making music or creating content many times and prioritized nuturing my feelings of boredom as the work is not always going to be fun and exciting. Faith in myself and in the universe that I am destined to achieve what I wish has given me a practical optimistic outlook in my day to day that has allowed me to stay motivated and strangely the world works in a way that if you trust it, there are more blessings and opportunities to come about. Lastly, patience is key. There were many times when I felt like I was not seeing results, the music I was making didn’t sound good to my ears, the content I was creating was not reaching many people. But by pushing through those times I was able to hit new achievements and milestones that I previously never had conceived possible. Progress is not linear. Sometimes we struggle a bit more because there is something in there for us to learn.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I unplug completely. Noise cancelling headphones is a plus but when I am overwhelmed I am usually also overstimulated. Sometimes it’s hard to put the phone down and stop scrolling on your apps on your down time but by removing all technology, focusing on looking at what is ahead of me, and taking deep mindful breaths has allows me to stay grounded and return to myself.
