Meet Sam Leverson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sam Leverson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sam below.

Sam, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
The first step for finding my purpose was honestly stepping out of my comfort zone and healing my inner child. In the past year I have dealt with a great amount of change which really started to make me question what MY purpose was vs the purpose I was told/conditioned to believe from a societal standard and from my childhood. After sitting in these thoughts and realizing I had “lost” my purpose it came time to sit in the discomfort and really meditate on what brings me and my soul joy. I realized it was no longer about the money but about the work that I was doing and how that was effecting my community and beyond. It all really came down to taking my inner child by the hand and saying it’s okay to think for yourself and stand up for what you want in life!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In my opinion I have two of the BEST jobs you could ask for. I get to impact peoples lives in multiple ways from helping them invest in themselves in real estate or in their health!

Real estate started off as a childhood dream of mine. I grew up moving quite often up until the age of 10 between MI, WI and MN. I became quite familiar with the process at a young age and found it fascinating. It took me a few years after high school before I found myself living out my childhood dream but, at the young age of 22, I made the decision to start on my path of owning my own business!

I started to see and feel how impactful this career was right away. Later in my career I started to expand how I could make an impact by getting involved with my brokerages Diversity and Inclusion Team. From there it started to pour out onto my local association level where I am currently on the Diversity Equity and Inclusion committee as well as running for Board of Directors. After getting involved and having the honor of receiving a scholarship to attend the National Association of REALTOR’s mid year meetings, I really started to see how the work we are doing even just on a local level can start to trickle up the chain to the state and national level. This is where that purpose really started to come into play. Not only am I impacting the clients I am directly helping, I am starting to help influence meaningful change throughout the industry.

In addition to being a REALTOR, this past June I embarked on this new journey of becoming a spin instructor. This is also somewhat of a dream I am living out as I saw the effect it could have on others to inspire them and impact meaningful change in their lives as I saw the impact it had on my own for a few years.

So far in my instructor journey I have found that it is a great addition to real estate. With real estate comes many big highs with also the lows. Being a high empath, instructing brings me consistent highs to help me get through the peaks and valleys of real estate while staying aligned in my purpose of impacting meaningful change.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self awareness, boundaries and grace given to self and others would be the three skills/qualities that were big on my journey. For others beginning on their journey, I think it really starts with giving yourself grace as well as others. With change comes a lot of anxiety and unknown which can send your nervous system into a dysregulated state. This can cause some colorful reactions. If you give yourself and others a little more grace by pausing to actually think about your response, I think it is a trickle effect from there. That’s when you start to become more self aware and start to look inward and see is this something that’s triggering my inner child and is there a boundary that we can set to avoid this from happening in the future and reassuring our younger self that we are safe!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I think the most important part when feeling overwhelmed is first shifting the anxiety that comes with it. In the words of one of my favorite podcast hosts, Sabrina Zohar, “Anxiety is energy.” You need to first recognize the feeling then intentionally shift it. Whether that’s breath work, a spin class, running, yoga, or jumping jacks, something to intentionally shift that energy. Then you’re able to think clearly and make a list to prioritize accordingly and also acknowledge the fact that it all may not work out exactly the way you planned but it could turn out even better!
