We were lucky to catch up with Sam Posthumus recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sam, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I think it’s natural. I have always been an optimistic person, sometimes foolishly. It has never been something that I’ve had to work at or maintain, it’s just there

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m the artist known as Posthumus Art, I create bold, bright paintings that are all about energy, emotion, and individuality. My work has a very distinct style — something that’s grown naturally over time as I’ve experimented and really leaned into what feels most authentic to me.
What excites me most about painting is how color and movement can instantly shift a mood or tell a story without needing any words. I love creating pieces that make people feel something — whether it’s joy, curiosity, or just a spark of inspiration.
Right now, I’m continuing to expand my collection and explore new directions in my work. I’m also connecting with more collectors and art lovers who resonate with my style, which has been incredibly rewarding.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My optimism, love for creating, and ability to adapt have been extremely helpful for my artistic journey. Without those three things I don’t know where I would be today. My biggest piece of advice to anyone early in their journey would to create. Like, don’t stop. Explore new techniques. Get out of your comfort zone on occasion. And stay true to yourself.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My family has been extremely helpful with helping overcome my own obstacles just through their support. If my own mental support falters my wife, daughter, and mom have always been there to help me get back up and dust myself off. I also have an incredible support system of artists and friends that help me grow while also helping to keep any negativity in check.
